Injuries, cold streaks, guys adjusting to a new team, guys adjusting to a new role, Newell Brown as your (frank)ing PP coach, etc. All stuff that can limit things.
I know so many people have 40 goal dreams for Petey and Boeser, but 40 isn't far off what 50 used to be. I think a lot of people still act like this league has 5-6 guys potting 50 year when its nearly exclusively Ovechkin who does.
35 goals would make a player a top 25 goal scorer. That would be a 7 goal bump for Petey who will progress, but also has a full year of tape and teams prepping for him more how they did in the 2nd half than the first half. I don't know if Ferland is the answer to that line either as both Petey and Brock could use a player who can open space by being a puck threat, not a mucker.
35 would be a 9 goal increase for Boeser. +7 and +9 would be huge increases.
Ferland hasn't scored 20 goals in like 2 or 3 years and the dude has injury issues. Miller had 13 goals last year and his career high 23. I don't think anyone really knows what Pearson is gonna be as he's going to have some of his time taken by Miller and Ferland as well. If those 3 combined for like 55, I'd call that a grand slam but could see them as like a 45 goal trio and thats going to have to make up for whatever reductions come from Jake, Baertschi, Leivo, Granlund and Goldobin which was 53 goals last year.
Say that comes down to 35 ish (thats still pretty high as you're really only cutting Granlund and splitting Goldy/Leivo's totals), you're only making a moderate net gain. Say an extra 12-15 from Petey and Brock, and you're at like +30 goals which is still a pretty damn big increase. Not impossible, but pretty much a ceiling they'd need a scaffolding to reach.
Now, the benefit to a lot of that is that you've added better players so you'll be on offence more often so the goals against chances are limited. - Lindenis#1
Yes, goals against should come down with more offensive pressure. The best uptake gain in goals for will be on the PP. Lots of room to grow and adding Miller and Hughes would open up BB's and EP's options to produce.

What what his ATOI and who were his most common line mates during his rookie NHL season?
Hint: He basically got 4th line ice time and his most common linemates were Virtanen and Granlund. What kind of numbers were you expecting from a non-bluechip rookie with that usage?
The Bo replacement talk is ridiculous but people that view him as a solid long term 3LC seem to be pretty reasonable, no?
And I’m sorry, but watching Sutter and Beagle Center their own lines isn’t going to be entertaining and it’s going to result in an over reliance on the top 6 for offense, which isn’t a great strategy in today’s NHL. - Nucker101

So obviously Miller is going to score more goals because he's going to have more minutes and better line mates.
Ferland is going to score more goals because he's not going to go 1 goal in 34 games.
Gaudette is going to have to get out of the coaches dog house if he wants to score more goals. |

“After giving much thought to this difficult decision, I informed Paul today that he was not the right fit for our organization going forward,” Wild owner Craig Leipold said in a team press release. “I believe we have a good hockey team, a team that will compete for a playoff spot this year, and I look forward to hiring a General Manager that will help us win a Stanley Cup. I would like to thank Paul for his time with the Wild and wish him and his family the best in the future.”

Boeser won't star so slow, he learned. And EP will be better. QH + TM making breakout passes vs. puliot and guddy! |

Proposed remedies when Gaudette finds his scoring touch & will have better wingers.
Ferland EP Brock
Pearson Bo JTM
Sven Gaudette JV
Motte Beagle Sutter
LE (Roussel)
Sutter’s black hole offence used better.
4th line with more scoring & good D & mostly D zone starts only. |

Agreed. I saw his deployment more as them sheltering him as much as possible. |

I think that as well. He would have been down in Utica for most of the season if it were not for the injuries. |

Yup. Had Beagle and Sutter not been injured at the same time we wouldn't have had to use Petey, Bo , Gaudette and Granlund
I really hope Gaudette challenges for 3LC but he doesn't need waivers, so I see him in Utica to start. |

I am in no hurry to bring Gaudette up at all. If it takes 2 or three more years then it is what it is. |

His time frame to be fully developed is probably that at most. Revolves more around TOI & deployment & linemates for him to be fully utilized best imo. |

Nobody said that.
However, when you look at some of the better drafts in history there are few busts and the list of multiple game all-star players is long. I'd rather they miss the playoffs this year and make it next which is a likely scenario. - golfingsince
What do you think is more likely, that we make the playoffs or that we don't? |

Yup. And there's nothing wrong with that. We finally have depth enough to have a few competition for spots. Been a while! |

Or being in Utica without sheltered minutes is better when a call up inevitably occurs. Rather prospects play in a role that is not micromanaged aka ready to impact a game. |
