Bill where did you see Hextall was the front runner? saw him mentioned as a candidate just not the leading one. He will get another job as he should, then will be able to see if he learned anything. |

Asked around. Several people indicated that Hextall is the frontrunner. Minnesota wants a quick process and prefers someone who has already been an NHL GM. |

Really hoping Hextall gets that gig. I think he really deserves another shot. |

Not sure how anyone can honestly say they dont see this years team being better than last years team.
These are the facts:
1. Proven winner of a head coach with an experience coaching staff
2. Full year of Hart
3. 2C allowing NoPa to slot back in 3c and get some favorable matchups.
These are the should happen:
1. Bounce back years from one or both of Provy and Ghost
2. Continued development of misc other young players - opeth_pa
the additions on D should help calm things down. Seeing how bad they were in their own zone.
Also have to hope the older fwd dont start to have a huge regression. |

I dont see him as a fit there unless they want to do a pseudo rebuild.
Wonder what the flyers brass will say about him when the wild do their due diligence. |

I like the moves we made this summer. Finally have some stability at 2C and on D. I think it will do wonders for our guys. I'm still very concerned about Elliott as our back up though.
Excited to see who wins the 3rd line winger job out of camp. I think it really gives the young guys something to shoot for knowing there is a definite NHL spot up for grabs. Also, with this real deal coaching staff that has been assembled, camp can't come soon enough. I really feel like if Hextall made the right coaching decision when Hakstol was clearly done, he would still be here.
Also, why did we not draft Caulfield again...? Sighhh.. I like Brink, it just looks like Caulfield is a gamer. |

We took York before Caufield., Brink was after Caufield. |

Bill meant to ask you this while back, would you have went in another direction for the backup goalie spot? Granted it would have cost more.
I get elliot was a cheaper option. Was it the best option in your opinion. |

The only concern I have with Elliott is health related. If he can stay healthy, he is the perfect backup type in my opinion. |

his propensity for giving up bad team deflating goals on a consistent basis is an issue. |

Last year, for the first half of the season, it seemed like there was at least one bad goal per game. The kind of goals from bad shooting angles, stoppable unscreened shots, etc. The kind of goal that basically gives the team no faith in its goalie.
Now, how much of that had to do with two goalies coming off of surgery combined with a porous D, I can't say. |

as you said, they were stoppable goals. Ones an nhl goalie needs to make. Every goalie will give up bad goals here and there as it happens. They need to be limited though and he gave up too many. |

Goalie issues and an immature team, not a recipe for success, this year we wlll see if that is the Flyers culture, if so they might need to blow up the whole thing.
I land on the side that the vets will calm it down and the youngens will step up. I believe in part, it is why Fletcher didn’t think Nisk was enough and he went after Braun
MJL is right in the fact that a lot rides on the youth but they need the vets to help change the on ice culture |

Bill, you should email a copy of your blog today to Tanner. He could use an education on the basics of hockey and player management. |

Wow...if you go to the comments for Tanner's latest blog, you get the "Specified thread does not exist" message.
Either that or I'm banned from him comments. |

I've seen some stupid things said on the internet, but this is easily one of the best ones of the year...
The fact is, if you have a twitter account and know what Corsi is, you're a better candidate than Ron Hextall or Peter Chiarelli. - James_Tanner
Anyone who uses any facet of Corsi to prove anything needs a pat on the head and asked to move aside. |

Tanner is angry about anyone.
Hextall was a good GM but his secret service style communication was weird |

Agreed. When it came to managing the cap and acquiring picks and prospects, Hextall generally did a good job.
As for keeping a competitive on-ice product, his coaching staff selection (not restricted to head coach), and some of his organizational practices...well, there was something left to be desired. |

There were many flaws in Hextall's tenure, but he did many things well for this team. It was also proven already that the issues with this team were not just the GM's fault. Then add in that Tanner has been an advocate for Chayka for the past 3 years and that is all that needs to be said. This is hard for me to say, but Chayka is possibily worse than Chiarelli as a GM and that is hard for anyone to say. |

I don't know if Chayka's worse. Chayka has just kept his team non-competitive for the bulk of his tenure, Chiarelli pretty much sabotaged McDavid's career. |

Shattenkirk is rumored to be a buyout candidate.
Flyers could sign him for cheap, then move Ghost to the wing. |
