Shattenkirk is rumored to be a buyout candidate.
Flyers could sign him for cheap, then move Ghost to the wing. - Feanor
Now you're thinking!
Is this their last day for the buyout option? |

I don't know if Chayka's worse. Chayka has just kept his tea, non-competitive for the bulk of his tenure, Chiarelli pretty much sabotaged McDavid's career. - jmatchett383
Chayka has the excuse of ownership limbo and arena lease problems to fall back on, but his decision making has been sketchy at best. Don't get me wrong though I wouldn't want Chiarelli managing a nearby McDonalds let alone my favorite sports team. |

Chia traded a useful forward in Drake Caggiula for Brandon Manning, after Manning was already was a disaster in Chicago. The guy had totally lost the plot by the end. |

Bill where did you see Hextall was the front runner? saw him mentioned as a candidate just not the leading one. He will get another job as he should, then will be able to see if he learned anything. - daryl stanley

It’s very much believed Hextall is the leading candidate as of now. Sources say Leipold and Majka have been doing due diligence on him for a while and have already asked Philadelphia for permission to speak with him. Sources say Leipold and Majka might be interviewing Hextall as soon as Wednesday in Racine, Wisc. |

Is he still being paid by the Flyers? Or is asking for permission just a gentlemanly thing to do? |

Also, why did we not draft Caulfield again...? Sighhh.. I like Brink, it just looks like Caulfield is a gamer. - bmoreflyer
As it's been said the Flyers drafted York sooner as they felt he was a better fit for the gaps they appear to have. I have 0 issue with that approach.
How many other teams passed on Caufield before the Flyers could have drafted him?

Sounds somewhat similar to what happened here with Hextall. Though I maintain had the team been winning Hexy would still be here. |

Really hoping Hextall gets that gig. I think he really deserves another shot. - MJL
I wonder how different Hextall would have been viewed by the FO if acquiring Paul Stastny actually came to fruition, coupled with him going after perhaps another piece instead of JVR, or even if he still got JVR and made 2 big FA signings. Wonder what the perception of him would have been in the FO, if it made him seem like he was starting to turn the page on retooling and beginning to contend, or stayed status quo? |

I wonder how far apart they were on a contract if he was Hexy's number one target. All assuming Stastny had at least a desire to play here if the contract worked. |

Goalie issues and an immature team, not a recipe for success, this year we wlll see if that is the Flyers culture, if so they might need to blow up the whole thing.
I land on the side that the vets will calm it down and the youngens will step up. I believe in part, it is why Fletcher didn’t think Nisk was enough and he went after Braun
MJL is right in the fact that a lot rides on the youth but they need the vets to help change the on ice culture - wcorvette
It's a catch 22. I do agree with you that veterans provide stability and aid younger players growth. That's balanced with other issues. |

All about the impact they would've made. Winning would've changed everything and all other nonsense wouldn't have mattered. |

Chiarelli is a strange case but a lot of good Bruins player played bad elsewhere
Spooner,Eriksson and Lucic as example.
And with 3 First pick selection in a row you can expect some primadonna behaviour.
Even McDavid is of now not a complete player |

We took York before Caufield., Brink was after Caufield. - jmatchett383
Doh! Thanks for the clarification. For some reason I thought Caulfield was still on the board when we chose Brink. But now I realize we moved back in first to reacquire a 2nd, and Caulfield was still on the board but we chose York. |

Remember Provy didn't miss a single game in his ELC contract and last year his TOI was so high that 27 teams didn't have a single player each doing his numbers
So he works and can negotiate from a strong position |
