I see your point now and agree in both your statements that Provy is significantly better and 5M is not the bar for him...makes sense now... - JW98FlyerFan
This has to be MJLs dumbed down account no? Have you not seen what every other poster has said? No one saw Provy getting $5M, Girards deal pushed the contract up from it potentially being at, or slightly above $6M. Jesus.. |

No one said under, I said at, and it was referring to a starting point. This deal 100% drove the cost of the big 3 up. you are misinformed and misread. - ClaudeFather
If before this deal was signed, you thought Provorov was going to be around 6M, how does this deal effect that? How does it drive it up? The Werenski and McAvoy deals are what is going to set the market for Provorov, not the Girard deal in my opinion. The Girard deal is not a factor. |

Because those deals will also be affected. Their value just went up as well, thus affecting Provorovs deal.

Like I've said before, our only hope is that Macavoy takes a deal first and it is at a decent cap hit. He has missed time in both of his seasons and may be advised to take a reasonable deal. Also, tough to demand too much when a guy like Pasta takes the hometown discount. |

Is he still being paid by the Flyers? Or is asking for permission just a gentlemanly thing to do? - jmatchett383
If his contract was like the contracts NHL coaches sign, then he would still be getting paid by the Flyers. |

You're incorrect. I dont think anyone is comparing anything. I think what I said. Provorov's market was already above 5M. - MJL
You're missing the blatant point here. Firstly, no one said under 6m, they said at. Please confirm you know this. Second, this was in no way saying they were the same player or the same market. It was saying just what a previous poster said, if this players is worth this, and Provorov is in a higher market, yet this player is not as good and got this much higher of a deal than expected, then maybe that shifts the higher markets above said player and raises the price of Provy.
Is that clear? |

IMO, the Girard deal, because it's a seven-year that doesn't even start until 2020-21, and pre-empts three years of UFA at a $5M price tag, is more TEAM-friendly than player-friendly, assuming Girard becomes what the Avs think he will become.
The Provorov price tag that Gandler set on a BRIDGE deal is likely in the same ballpark as what Girard just signed for on a long-term. So, no, I don't think it actually is ammo for the Provorov (or Werenski or McAvoy) camps. I think the comparable those guys are still shooting for on long-term deals is the Aaron Ekblad range, and their teams are thinking more in the Seth Jones range.

With all due respect, I disagree. Girard's deal has zero effect on any of those players deals. No reason why it would. |

My favorite thing to read is when someone tells someone they missed the point, while completely missing it themselves. It's really funny and entertaining. The benchmark that we are discussing is the 5M that the player just signed and not the perceived figure of 6M. It doesn't shift the market for Provorov. No need for you to confirm that you know this because I already know what you don't know.

What about Mcavoy and regards to his injuries? Could you see him setting the market a bit lower? |

i could see the Bruins maybe wanting to go 2 year bridge deal or something like that. i bet Mcavoy wants a long term deal tho. they still have Carlo to sign as well and are in true cap hell. |
