Powers reporting Hawks and Perlini 500K apart. Hawks offering 1M while Perlini asking for 1.5M.
- boilermaker100

$1 million for one year would be fair. Perlini has been inconsistent so this would be his “show me” deal, plus he’d have arbitration rights next summer. $1.5 million is fair too, maybe they just split the difference down the middle. I wonder if either side would consider a 2 year deal for $1.25 million per.

I'd go 1.5 for 2 years. It's more than I think he should get, but to have the extra year, it may be worth it. We have to sign ADB, Strome and 2 goalies next year, and only have about 20M to do it. That would leave us with 17 players signed and 81.9M in salary. Obviously, Stan will have to trade some salary next summer, but if Perlini can perform up to his potential, 1.5 would be a bargain. We need players like that in 2020-21.

For next year, definitely pencil in Dach at 925K, probably Boqvist at 925K, maybe Mitchell at 925K and Nylander at 863K. Those 4 total 3.6M. Added to your 81.9M figure that's a total of 85.5M which would probably be over next year's cap. Yes, someone is going to be moved....Saad or one of Murphy/Maatta/DeHaan (to make room for Mitchell) IMO

Edit Smith probably a goner also.

Random question: if Toews wasn't on the team or was on the team but just wasn't captain, who do you think would be captain?

I'm guessing Seabrook even with all the grief he gets (deserved or not) for his albatross contract and aging play. He's a vocal leader who's always talking to his teammates on the ice and on the bench. Well respected.

Then of course there's the classic move of him pep talking Toews in the penalty box during the playoff series vs. the Wings.

I go 1million take or leave it then the question becomes does he want to play hockey this upcoming season for the hawks or not.

Dach makes the team. Boqvist splits the season between Rockford and Chicago. Mitchell splits next season.

Smith will play this season, he might get bought out or traded with retained salary next off season.

On Dach - did he play last nite against Sweden? I watched some of the game, didn’t see him.

He played today against the Red White and Blue, but wasn’t very noticeable.

I love football as well, but in foootball I honestly don’t know how they can get rid of hits to the head. It is just inherent to the sport. Hockey isn’t the same, hits to the head could be outlawed with automatic suspensions and the game wouldn’t be changed whatsoever.
- LaheysBRandy

Could bring back the old goal posts that didn't break away. That would end the goalie maiming. Of course, the players union would go ape shyt. Agree with the overall consensus that goalies have become targets with no resolution in sight. Something has to be done before it is too late.

I know this is unpopular with most, but the mandatory helmet rule needs to be abolished. And the instigator penalty. Those 2 rules have changed the game on the ice for the worst. Players do not respect each other now.

Guaranteed before we couldn't field a full roster, now because we took $3m back it will just be difficult. Come up with something new to cry about.
- rpeters01

Yeah, but what you're failing to mention is they should have had 4 cups and if you were a true fan, you were crying after game 7 vs Kings... 2C should have been addressed, it was likely there were going to bump into the Kings... totally avoidable tears back then.

So Tyler, I gave up coffee because your blogs were coming out very couple days and giving me the spurt of energy needed to tackle the days wars... now my hands are shaking, I'm feeling down and might have to return back to coffee if you don't get more blogs out there - your fan are addicted to your writing, so please feed us more.

So that leads to a desire for some future articles. It'd be nice to have a daily writeup leading up to the start of the season, each one focusing on one of the other 6 Central division teams, some insights, strengths/weaknesses, maybe even the last blog of that series being your overall assessment of how the central will finish. Kinda like how you did the series on the 1st round picks the hawks might end up choosing.
Maybe you could also pull in the other hockey buzz writers for those teams where they provide a short summary of insight on their team... even better, maybe the same question asked of each of those writers, like 'do they feel their team will finish ahead or behind the hawks and why?'... 'from a season start point of view, if the hawk played their team in a 7 game series, who would win and why?'... stuff like that. Could make for an exciting week of blogs heading into the season.

Morning Justin, love your blogs and the depth it covers on Blackhawk going forward. I find it hard to track in my head the cap, the estimated cap a year out, and the contracts expiring and those we need to sign. Strome and Cat coming due to re sign in 20- 21, Crow on last year.

I'm assuming with full year for Coach and SB on hot seat, this will be a pivotal year on if we progress or flat line and and how we look four years out. This will be a defining year, and an interesting one

Capfriendly.com is a great site to track contracts and cap numbers. Once you get to the home page click on TEAMS and select Chicago or one of the other clubs. That will show you contract amount and length of term for signed players, when they will become RFA or UFA going out a few years. Also shows you total of signed contracts and associated cap hit in coming years. Lots of other good info on that site if you have time to explore it.

Excellent idea! Abolish helmets! And then let them fight! What could possibly go wrong?

That's a good start, but they should also eliminate the high sticking penalty too. I want to see plenty of stick swinging when I watch a game. Blood and gore on ice baby!

Boiler, this question isn't just for you but for anyone who regularly uses Capfriendly: is there a way to create a 2019-20 roster then be able to use that roster to create future rosters for 2020-21, 2021-22, etc. so they're based on your past projections?

I may not be doing things right but it seems like you have to re-create a new roster for each season. Not hard to do, of course, but it still takes time. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I think that the idea of removing helmets is actually really interesting, but would never happen.

I think helmets do add a false sense of safety, when in reality they do very little to prevent concussion. They prevent skull damage but don’t really substantially change accelerations to the head which cause concussions.

I think the solution is just to impose tough penalties on the players for head shots, I feel like it’s that simple, but yes it is probably the players association that ironically oppose this the most.

No, didn't play vs Sveden. ......... And yes despite playing on Line 1 line with Velano and the projected 1st overall next yr, Lafreniere, Dach was quiet. Would note that Velano who is a 2000 and a center played wing and Dach played C.

Even when Dach is not too noticeable he's of help. Doesn't need to score to help. Solid defense always, big body that will go to the net and needs to be marked causing traffic and screens. This will help him when management is considering keeping him on the roster past Game 9. Size, IQ and attention to defense..... Also on the 1st PP unit playing down low at the crease and side of the net. ........... Made a nice stuff attempt that Knight made a solid play on yesterday.

Liked what I saw from him in the WJSS. On to Traverse City, camp and preseason games. ...... Kid does a lot of damage in the slot and is proficient there. 1st game vs USA, wears #17, beauty feed to Velano for the 1st goal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cEf239UUj8

The bolded description of Dach sounds a lot like...Hossa, especially as he got older. IIRC, Scotty Bowman or another in Hawks brass told Hossa to just play defense like only he can even if his offense was starting to decline.

That's the beauty of some of the Hawks top forward prospects: they actually give a damn on defense and can still contribute on offense at least as middle 6 talent.

Sikura, Dach, Kurashev, Entwistle, and Hagel are the closest to the NHL but then there are others like Wise, Barratt, and Slavin further down in the pipeline.

This doesn't even count defensive-minded 4th line prospects like Highmore, Hakkarainen, Soderlund, Johnson, and Saarela (Antti the younger brother, not Skille/Morin-esque older brother Aleksi).
