There’s video of Chayka and Botts talking at the draft and the thought is we would’ve got Domi but AZ couldn’t pay the bonus. Shortly after Domi goes for Galchenyuk.

Pegula refused to pay his bonus. It’s just obvious.

As far as the arbitrary 90 point barometer, there’s just too many variables for me to go there.

Carolina has been a solid team for the past few years. They finally get some saves and a shooting % boost and they’re a ECF team.

As long as this team is steadily improving in the shot column, in expected goals, preventing scoring chances and poop like that then it’s good news and we should keep adding.

It’s just my opinion the “get to 90 points or get out” threshold is just looking for a justification for him to be fired.

Any measure of success short of the Stanley Cup is arbitrary, but 90 points is where I fall in terms of having faith in Botterill going forward.

If Larsson & Girgs have another good defensive season, I’d sign them again

Our top9 centers next year will most likely be Jack, Mitts & Cozens
Don’t really want any of them taking on big defensive responsibility

And hopefully 3 lines anchored by them can all be scoring regularly

GMTM had the benefit of a sh!t ton of picks from Darcy
It’s not like he did anything to earn them
He also traded away a ton of them
And flat out wasted a bunch, with some horrible choices

If u wanna see the difference between the 2,
look at how the defensive pipeline under GMTM was pretty much ignored
And how Botts obviously made it a priority to build it up with lots of young talent

It’s not even close between the 2

For his own sanity, I hope he does not.

Jcrag is wrapped around the axle of 3 seasons being enough for a GM to ice a competitive team.
I don't think he is widely off the mark there in general.

That said, there were some issues along the way he had to deal with that set the timetable back...
1- late hire in his first offseason handcuffed him a bit for that season and he expressed early on that he would not be very active the first season, rather use it as an evaluation period. That marginalized the impact he would have in year 1, right, wrong or indifferent, it did.
2- Kane pissing off Kim and Terry made the subsequent trade value received less than optimal. It is what it is. It didn't turn out horrific, and actually he made it work with packaging Guhle and the SJ 1st for Montour.
3- ROR lamenting himself out of town and pussing off Kim and Terry forcing a trade before the $7.5m Bonus Payment ... he did really Bone Us
4- Housley becoming completely useless...was it Jason's selection, or Pegula's? Who knows, but a big miss for sure either way.

Yet last offseason he turned over the roster rather significantly. This year he has bolstered the middle 6 and D rather significantly and does appear to have a trade or 2 or 3 left to make if he so choses.
But as of now there is still a bunch of deadwood remaining that will be addition by subtraction if he can unload these scrubs...if not 90% are gone after next season anyway when the real fruits if his labor should be on full display.
We shall see.

Yeah, i felt the same way around that time. The issue was that you get bassard or some decent 2C. Mitts and dahlin werent studs and just getting their feet wet, you still have a horrible defense, and the team in general was just not ready. Win streak or not .... they were not ready to make the jump.

Olofsson was barely a couple months into the AHL.


I was mad too at the time. But then realized that the team in general was not ready.

Now if it was this years team with an upgraded defense, same goalies, and some better depth. 100% pay what ever you need to get a 2C.

eichel, reinhart, okposo, bogo, mccabe, risto, e-rod, girgens, larsson, nelson, ullmark
