No, it's not. Dahlin had 79 GA. Gardiner had 53. Look for yourself.
https://www.foxsports.com...8&category=DEFENSE&time=0 - TheSabresTaco
I forgot Dahlin had so many, I figured Risto would be everyone's go to guy. However, if Gardiner played as many games as Dahlin he would probably be around the same number. Hell, he had 105 giveaways the year before playing on basically the same team. |

Jake Gardiner.
This chart shows him in a large, mostly orange circle. That means
-He gets a lot of ice time
-His zone starts were approximately 50/50
-When he is on the ice, his linemates are outshooting the opponents. You will notice some big blue circles on here. They are not outshooting their opponents.
-His quality of competition is a mix of 1st and 2nd line players, primarily 2nd liners
https://public.tableau.co...es&:origin=viz_share_link
This chart here tells us that Gardiner is on the plus side of shot rates, verifying the previous chart.
https://public.tableau.co...es&:origin=viz_share_link
This chart here tells us that Gardiner is the most successful defenseman on the Leafs at expected goal differential. A player that can have this high of a rating while simultaneously playing as many minutes he does is a "quality" modern defenseman.
https://public.tableau.co...es&:origin=viz_share_link
Finally, this chart verifies the above charts with being able to control shot rates and 'win' offensively. It shows that he is mostly successful at preventing entry into his own zone, as well as exit his zone. He is "average" at entering the opposing zone, likely because Toronto's system is get it the (frank) to the forwards as fast as you can. |

The worst TA/GA ratio on the team that played a full season was Nelson at 0.3. Gardiner was 0.5. Dahlin was also 0.5 |

To summarize, Jake Gardiner would be a welcome addition, especially if he's outright replacing Marco Scandella. Is he perfect? Absolutely not. Finding a top 4 version of Borgen on this team would do absolute wonders though. |

No but someone like Leslie Frazier will pay the PRICE
The Bills mgmt is in a different spot. They've made the playoffs. - jcragcrumple[/quote]
Hot take of the day : It is my firm belief that the Bills are still In a playoff draught. What are they up to now, 19 seasons ? The Chargers should have gone in instead of us...they were the better team and destroyed the Bills earlier in the season, not to mention we snuck in because of the Andy Dalton miracle 4th down pass. We definitely didn't deserve to get in, that's for sure. Only the stupid tiebreaker scenario helped us back in. I don't care that we actually played the Jaguars in January, I don't care what the record books now say - we DIDN'T get in.
Therefore, the draught is still on. I firmly believe this and nobody can change my mind.
PS, this is not the stupidest thing I've ever said. |

So it's ok to pay $6m long term for a defenseman that may have a bad back, because he was the best defenseman on a team that had a worse defensive unit than Buffalo. Good to hear. |

When compared to McCabe and Scandella ...... yes. He’s better.
If he has a bad back ..... you can throw him on IR and call it a day. Callahan and others have done this |

Don't move the goal posts. It's ok to pay Gardiner a reasonable amount for a reasonable term. The argument is, injury not withstanding, is he a worthy addition to a team. The answer is absolutely. |

sabres have to offer sheet under 4.227 mil per or over 10.568 mil due to picks
boeser is not a 10 mil player so not him
colorado would match rantanen
so it must be Tkachuk, Laine or Connor
then again it's Ek |

90 points is 6 wins and 2OTL more than last year.
Botterill fired his coach and got a bunch of new players. It's not a high bar - jcragcrumple
You also have a 10 game wing streak that was a complete mirage last year
3.5 more wins without that 10 game win streak changes things a lot |
