Looking at how bad that team was post the win streak and expecting 14 more points than what they finished with last season which included a 10 game win streak is just you looking at point totals and doing any digging and actual thinking.

Your expectations might be what you hope to happen but anyone that can think without emotions should know better not to expect playoffs this season.

I am not saying your hope for the team isn't unrealistic but the whole Botterill should get fired if they're not knocking on the playoff door is a bit much especially when you look at how bad this team was post 10 game win streak...

I made a list of realistic western targets. Color me blindsided if he does a 4 1sts OS.

On Elie, the arbitration was all about a 1 way vs a 2 way contract. Sabres obviously offered 2 way. He'd rather make 700K in both leagues than 735K in the NHL and probably 100K in Rochester, which he's destined to play for. It was a gamble he was forced to take. He lost 35K from his QO, and he lost the arbitration.

Replace the contract value, not the specific position. You were concerned about the prospect of injury on a long term deal for an expensive contract. So. Sign him to a similar deal to that which is remai ing on Rist's...hence the replacement comment.

He can actually play well at 5v5, which most games are played at for 50 minutes or so...why worry about PP time of what 6 - 8 minutes per game. Taco showed you in those pretty graphs how he blows Risto away, especially at zone exists with possession, just like guys they acquired in Dahlin, Montour, Miller, Joker, etc. Risto (frank)ing sucks really badly there.
It's a better way to spend $5m or so.

You mean like over 82 games where they got 76 points?

Things could have been different, but they weren't.

What you're doing is retconning the season by saying - "this never should have happened, but everything else would have been the exact same"

Sample sizes smooth out over long durations. Perhaps - and I won't say you should think harder, because that is a poopbird comment to make to someone who disagrees with you - perhaps they were a 76 point team that overachieved at times and underachieved at times, and it smoothed out to 76 points.
