I think the forgotten issue is the division we play in.

It’s similar to the Bills

We’re playing for two wild card spots amongst many teams.

Just like the Bills are always playing for second place in the division

It’s not on Botts that the Leafs actually built depth through previous drafts, and we’re able to sign a superstar for free

It’s not on Botts that Yzerman had a ton of drafting success the last 5-7 years that made them annual contenders.

And Boston has remained a powerhouse since 2011

As long as it looks like we’re moving towards those teams and closing the gap, that should IMO be the barometer

Which team has a better chance of making the playoffs this year, Bill’s or Sabres?
- PrinceChill

6/16 teams make it for football
8/16 for hockey

Season hinges on a second year QB for football

Season hinges on a second year 2C for hockey

I'll go Sabres. I think the Bills go 9-7 and miss.

Sabres? I think they miss, but they have Dahlin and Eichel, so get to it Krueger

So, in a team sport where multiple players impact any given play, as opposed to games such as Baseball which is predominantly 1:1; wouldn't many stats be subject to this same ridicule?

In Football, QB Completion Percentage is used by many as the gold standard to assess a QB's accuracy. But we have seen how stupid that stat is when a drop of a good pass counts against the QB. Yet, we use that flawed stat as a general method over a period of time to give us an indicator that then needs to be further evaluated in order to evaluate the gaps between QBs.

I think the same can be said of the so called useless stats such as Corsi and +/- in which context with other stats such as Zone starts, Qof C and QofT help round out the picture.
Speaking of which, in-person viewing must be heavily discounted given
-viewing distance,
-viewing angles,
-distractions like conversations with hockey dads, the attractive lady 3 rows down and 4 seats over, beer vendor, the beer vendor...did I mention the beer vendor, behind the play action, that annoying sign they put up on the glass behind the nets, ice girls...oh wait, Kim doesn't allow that, running to the boys room, leaving early, coming in late...jesus get a damn grip people.

Point is, nothing is perfect and most are not useless including +/-...flawed ... yes, perfect as a standalone measure ... no, part of the picture...absolutely yes.

- IonSabres

We don’t have these anymore. I went to about 15 games last season and had a beer vendor come through my section 3 times. Place sucks.

No, it is a pretty, pretty good.
It reminds me of many posters when a side attack comes in response to one of their posts.
Blindly lash out a few times.

Lol

There’s a difference between imperfect or incomplete stats,
and
“flawed” stats

Imo, of course

they were clearly the better team, or did you not watch our D that season

The only thing in my mind was Peterman lofting gifts to the Chargers, or firing them high off receiver's hands.

Idk why you went from 11-5 to comparing us to the Pats?
Brady stays healthy, they finish ahead of us
He’ll drop off 1 day, but I’ll believe it when i see it

Allen just isn’t an 11-5 QB yet imo
I reserve the right to see how the preseason goes with him,
but he’s a talented guy that needs time to really learn how to play QB still

The Broncos won a super bowl with a broken down Peyton and had 188 yards of total offence in the Super Bowl. It takes a full team to be great.

Apparently not...
since the Broncos won the Super Bowl with a “broken down” QB, and very little offense

Regardless though, that’s the exception

NFL success is generally very QB driven
Allen has the tools
Just needs time for his brain to catch up to his athletic ability

I’d like to see steady improvement this season
Then i think he’ll have a chance to really be a weapon for us next year
I suppose it could happen this season,
but I’ll wait to see him in preseason before I’m ready to make that leap

Nah, it really doesn’t.

Have a top 5 QBs and you are set.

Until then, you have nothing. You may get a year of players playing above average but it won’t last.

A solid QB can get you to the playoffs by himself. If you can’t run the ball and play great defence it doesn’t matter. The two best offences of all time (2013 Broncos and 2018 Chiefs) did not win a ring.
