Did I say anything about 7 years.

No, but the argument is that he doesn't have any major long term deals outside of Skinner. I don't think that changes even if Vesey gets re-signed here.

Who are you trying to convince here, the posters on here who have zero say in what the owner does, or Terry, hoping that he reads these pages?

If they bring back a GM you can't stand, all you can do as a pissed off fan is stop watching their product. That's your one and only choice.

For his own sanity, I hope he does not.

I'm just tired of the genius Botterill narrative. I'll drop it

Yeah, those Scandella, Sobotka and Hunwick contracts are great.

I know, Terry made Botterill take Sobotka in a trade. He's always been one of Terry's favorites

Players might not want to sign in Buffalo?

Maybe you carry 11 nhl defenseman as a back up plan, and look at trades to build a team?

- Boss34

You might be right, but probably not.

Vesey wasn't brought here to be a rental.
- SABRES 89

So moved at the deadline ? He just doesn’t seem like the person that will stay I can see him going home to Boston

Pommer was our 4th leading goal scorer last year.

Both guys were brought into work with the young guys and pick early

Sure, but he hasn't exactly always "built it the right way" either. He only drafted an average of 6 times per draft.

He spent four 3rd round picks on Beaulieu, Pommer + Scandella, Vesey and Skinner. Obviously the last one is good.

The sheen has worn off of Botterill for me. He needs to do it this year, or he should be gone imo.

- jcragcrumple

I'm actually liking that six-pick strategy and those 3rds he used were for NHL players, unlike the crap shoot that is the draft, especially in the third round

No one is 100%

Why take shots at him though?

Step aside Fitz, was a comment to gerbe and he took it in stride like it was meant to.

Please address this:

Botterill has made 18 draft picks in 3 years

GMTM made 16 draft picks in 2 years

One is supposedly building it "the right way"

- jcragcrumple

He has signed a bunch free agent players to but i guess that doesn't count ?

I'm not here to defend Murray. He sucked. But when people talk about Botterill being patient and building the right way, it is relevant to say that he has only made 18 draft selections in 3 years while rebuilding
- jcragcrumple

hopefully it isn't his downfall, but he often traded up for a guy he really wanted and a couple times it was off the board and probably not necessary. if a few of these guys end up working out he did a good job, if they don't you are right on with wasting picks

I mean, I haven't read too many guys or gals on here that used the word "genius".

I think the guy has a great resume, though (yes, he had Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, but as AGM, he was tasked to help develop well, hire the coaches in WB to do just that, and backfill the NHL roster, and he did it to the tune of 3 Stanley Cups). He has worked his way up the chain and has earned the right to build this thing right, imo.

We're all just impatient at this point, and rightly so.

Just my opinion.

If he has a good year like 20-20 I think they would fit him on the 3rd line

But yes it’s up to Boston he’s probably at the bottom of the list for them

I would agree, but for the cost of acquisition, it's really no skin off the Sabres backs if he plateaus in his professional development. Sheary and/or Vesey may very well be worth new 1 or 2 year deals.
