Utunen may turn out to be a surprise, you never know. - VanHockeyGuy
I kind of like what Fantenberg brings as a depth guy, so the comp wasn’t a slight. I think there’s a bit of overreaction going on right now though... Unless goals are the result of some deliberate & obvious skill, they don’t really boost my opinion of a player. Take away Utunen’s 3 weird seeing-eye goals vs Canada & I highly doubt anyone would be mentioning him. If he winds up being anything more than a 6th dman/PK guy for us down the road, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. |

Wonder why there isn't more mention of Canuck's Finish prospect Utunen. Looks like a cool steady D man that could be a minute munching puck mover. Like to see him on the Comets soon. Could be a depth call up option as next stage of development. - NuckUp
I seen lots of good stuff on him , you just have to go t the right places.

He's progressing well since drafted. Seems to have good hockey IQ. Like to see what he can do on the Comets. |

I do wish we had a few more prospects on the comets vs other leagues! Not counting the NHL

Hard deadline in baseball. There was a crazy amount of trades. The Blue Jays sold their best pitchers for pennies on the dollar. I don't really know how Atkins could possibly keep his job. He has done worse than Fenton did in Minnesota. |

I hope they trade all their talent so we don't have to listen about them on a playoff run. |

Not bad for a 5th rounder. Would he be like a better disciplined Stecher then...? |

Sure . I have seen about four outstanding moves he has made at the tournament and comments about him not chasing the guy with the puck, staying in his position and a very good shot block block yesterday .
Smart young guy. |

They are already 30 games under .500 and they traded away quite a few players and didn't get much of anything in return.
this guys believe it

NOW will you guys finally stop crapping all over me every time I say that Shapiro and Atkins aren't doing it right?
Maybe in 3-5 years with all their now high draft picks then we can listen to post season baseball. |

I think that's pretty much what he's going on, is smarts. I don't think his skating is NHL worthy or his shot or stick handling and not overly physical.

We have a lot of Euros and College kids. The recent trend of Euro's going to Utica and wanting out can't be good. Need to get an earlier buy in perhaps. |

They were raving today about how much he's improved and developing nicely, they also said that the success of a player cannot be judged until the book is closed on a career, everyone develop's at there own pace. I think it was button and whoever else was on today. |

“His skating has taken such a step forward.. he can really do more in the game offensively and not be vulnerable defensively.”
@CraigJButton
on Utunen, the
@Canucks
5th rounder in 2018. Utunen had Team Finland’s opening goal today vs Canada and has looked steady as usual. #WJSS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't seen enough of his play to comment . I am just seeing more and more positive things said about him lately.

As I had said in the last blog, I haven't watched any of these games, so I'm just going off what I knew from world juniors last season.
I'm really glad he is improving. I think he was always a long shot to make it unless he improved quite a bit. If all he ever becomes is a 7/8 in a couple years. I'd still call that a small success for the scouts. |

Rangers going to buy out Shattenkirk soon as the window opens again. Halfway through his contract . Next year will carry a 6 mil cap hit to buy him out. |

I was reading an article the other day about how some random fellow who wrote an article said that he believes that the USHL is a better hockey league than the CHL leagues for talent.
I kind of wonder what the talent level difference is. Be sweet if they could make a tournament at the end of the year that all the winners and losers from the USHL, and CHL leagues could play a quick 4 games tournament. 2 groups of 4 teams. Pool winners to the finals.
Replace the memorial cup tournament. |

I agree he is a long shot. With Tryamkin Woo Myers Hughes OJ his chances of making the team are not great. |

#Rangers buying out the remaining 2 years of Shattenkirk's contract would result in 4 years of buyout cap hit broken down as follows:
2019-20: $1,483,333*
2020-21: $6,083,333
2021-22: $1,433,333
2022-23: $1,433,333
*It would save NY $5,166,667 in cap space this season.

Button was praising Utunen in all 3 periods. Commenting how much his skating has improved mostly.
I also think he's a bit bigger since the WJC.... progressing nicely for a 5th rounder.
