If OJ and Woo develop to potential and Tryamkin actually shows up to play like a top 4 then yes. But looking at the Avs makes the comparison sad. - NuckUp
Plus we may end up w Barrie in a year as well....unless playing for TO ruins him like it does all the others |

Cap room maybe the bigger issue in signing Barrie as a UFA. Even if they manage to get rid of LE and Sutter's contracts. Which realistically will have retention and/or trade off. They also have got the dam cap recapture. |

2020/21 - Nighthawk
Doubt they are walking away from 8 players which would need to be replaced. Maybe they build on Tanev coming off. Still have to move a larger contract like Sutter. |

Some have said that if he plays like he did last year. He will probably get between 4-5 on a long term deal. |

Signed for Utica this season
Position: G:4 D:12 F:16 | Av Age: 24.13 years | Av Ht: 6'0" | Av Wt 191 lbs |
A lot of competition in Utica this season. That doesn't even include the players going to be cut like Loui Eriksson and Tim Schaller. Moved on from players like Bancks and Woods.
Last season they used 46 players
Position: G:7 D:15 F:24 | Av Age: 25.43 years | Av Ht: 6'0" | Av Wt 191 lbs | |

As soon as you play in the CHL you become ineligible for the NCAA. You can start playing in the CHL at 16 years old. - manvanfan
Its not even when you step on the ice either. As soon as they accept a gift, like free skates or sticks, they are ineligible for NCAA.
And you try telling some 15 year old to turn down customized top of the line gear so that he could maybe go do more school... |

It's bit of a power struggle. CHL is losing a lot of better players to NCAA which benefits tier 2 hockey in Canada for a couple more years.
At the same time players that do choose the CHL at 16 the NCAA loses them in the future. Maybe a player at 18 knows he needs more development time and would like to go to school and could then join the NCAA once they have graduated high school.
My friend played goalie for the Brandon Wheat Kings for a couple years and got his school paid for in Canada and is now a doctor. |

I've known a few who started their post-CHL life in the AHL, and by Christmas were playing in the CIS because of ice time and not wanting to lose the scholarship. Good on your friend for making the most of it
The CHL's rules on when their scholarships expire really makes it tough on the players who go that route too. For all the absurdity that is the NCAA, at least you have the choice to leave that path at any moment. The CHL essentially locks a kid in at 15 to the single route and then forces a player to choose between a Canadian education or taking a shot at pro hockey after they are done at age 20. I'm glad more people are being smart about keeping their options open, the CHL needs an overhaul in my opinion |
