Does anyone read this blog and feel that there was any actual effort put into it! Just writing part one must of been exhausting. So much in there that it had to be split up into parts! In today's information age and access to the internet, how hard is to be informed to at least some degree on an NHL GM?

I used a thing called Google. Here is a link to that James.
https://www.google.com/

I googled " Hextall hired analytics guy". In less than two seconds, I received the following info.

https://www.inquirer.com/...tics_to_build_Flyers.html

https://www.broadstreetho...rs-hockey-analytics-stats

I would loosely call that research but that's the investment it took me to find info on Hextall and analytics. Between this blog and the last blog, how many inaccuracies did the blogger write?

No legit hockey writer would be caught dead on here. Don’t you read what ek writes? He’s the Donald Trump of the hockey world. He makes up his own rumours and alot of times he gets the names and teams mixed up.
And then Meltzer shows up with “editor” by his name. Any credibility he had is now toast.

- shack67

Oooh ok.

Lets be careful about throwing that "credibility" word around mmmkay?

I can see why you’d feel that way, and in most cases it’s true - you can’t shed the stink. However, Meltzer is the exception to the rule around here. The guy is very good at what he does.

Go ahead and take a read! His articles are well written and insightful. Not to mention, unlike a certain other Flyers ‘writer’, Meltzer has real connections to the team.

And if you need another selling point, check out the Flyers fans themselves. They’re absolutely known for eating their own kind for lunch. If you even hint that you’re a jamoke, you should pull your kids outta their school, and then duck ‘n cover. You’ve gotta have serious merit for them to all agree with you. Even the ones who disagree with each other (of which there are many), will all sit back and appreciate Metlzer’s work.

He does a fine job.

Bill Meltzer is simply as good as it gets. If you've been following him and been a member on HB, you can see how his career has progressed. How he has built himself up from blogger to legitimate hockey writer. HB is just one part. His knowledge of the game is clearly evident. Know what they say, if you have to tell someone you're good at something well then! Bill doesn't have to tell anyone. We already know. He has the credentials to back it up.

So why do you think he has sunk to this level? This is a site where some decent writers try to use it as a springboard to landing a legit writing job. Why would Meltzer show up here when he knows this site is mocked by the mainstream media.

Diversify your audience, I guess. In that gig, you need to spread your brand.

Maybe he just likes it? Maybe it’s a little more coin in his pocket? I dunno.

But give a few of his columns a read. He’s no doofus. The man can clearly write and has solid points to make.

No, but they’re both great fiction writers.

Generally this is true. But woe unto those that would call him out when he is wrong in his threads. His sycophantic refs ban you toot sweet and you certainly can’t complain to ek about it. I stopped reading him because commenting is most of the fun and his refs ruin it.

Maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion about him. But it does baffle me that he would put that much effort into proving James wrong. Cheers

And both parlayed it into a good career. Don’t blame the messenger... blame the people that keep them in power by paying attention.

He’s heralded by most here, and that’s true. And you are kinda saying ‘I like to troll a little bit for fun, and you can’t get away with that there”

But you actually read him, right? There’s clearly a difference between a slapdash blogger and a real journalist.

Whether you agree with him or not, which of those people does Meltzer come across?

No worries!

He usually wouldn’t respond to that, but he did. I really don’t think he spanked him as much as he refuted his points.

There might have been a little poke at the end of point 5, but he didn’t filet him. He just counterpointed what he disagreed with

to be fair, it really didn't require that much effort at all. James made it stupidly easy to pick apart.

Is he objective when writing about the flyers or is he a homer. In my experience home town writers who are really popular with the fans are generally homers.
The way he jumped to Hextalls defense gave me that impression.

Oh, he’s a fan, but he’s no homer. If he disagrees with the club, he’ll tell you why. That’s not to say he never agrees with their moves. Sure! But he doesn’t come across like a homer. I hate homers.

mostly he tries to be objective over subjective, which is what I like in a journalist.
