Ottawa is only paying a small portion of it, insurance is covering the rest, the owner is super cheap so it was beneficial
- blueshirts_fan

Ottawa needs to be sanctioned by the league for this. This is almost 25% of their salary paid by insurance

It's a moot point at this point to argue, so I agree we need to look forward. To me this is a pretty big season for Hajek. I want to see him as the guy who becomes the future Staal (the good version). I hope they can shelter Staal enough to make him look serviceable. It's just sad to see him fall like this, the fanbase forgets once upon a time, McD, Girardi, and Staal were arguably the best top 3 in the whole league.

I'm fine with Smith on the 4th line. Both of us aren't numbers guys, but his underlying numbers were actually pretty good. I'm just worried that if Smith is a forward, it's going to take time away from someone who could be pushing for a roster spot.

A whole lot of both of these points.

Strange but true facts, Staal has more value to this team right now than Shatty, both on and off the ice.

And, if we have Smith on the 4th line I will not be happy. He might be a better plug in for the present, but I feel strongly that putting him in as a forward ahead of our young actual forwards is not in the best interest of the team. In either the short or long term future.

definitely, Trouba, Tony D and Fox are all powerplay guys and the only thing Shatty had left was some ability to play the PP

Staal is at least a penalty killer

I have a feeling he's playing for the Pack this season.

I think we have high hopes for fox, but we really need to see what he can do...

I think I can already guarantee he'll score more than the two goals Shatty scored last year and he can't be any worse defensively

It's funny, Shatty was known for his offensive game but I never saw a Ranger with a softer shot before. Even Staal has a harder one

Off the ice I would agree completely. On the ice is definitely debatable. I would take Shatty over Staal if it was just a choice with no cap implications or any of that

Nah, he's already on the top-pair.
Seriously, He will probably spend some time in Hartford this season. I have no problem letting him develop up there. If he impresses in camp, fine. No need to rush him ala Malhotra.

Fox is already 21 though

I could see 40 games in Hartford like McDonagh got, but I dont see it taking very long for Fox to be regular here

Maybe we need to broaden the scope, it's not 1 player it's WHO they play with that makes them better or worse, and going to a new team it's hard to say if they will gel like they did for the other team. I said the same thing with Panarin, will he be the scorer he was for Columbus we can only hope, I think Jim pointed out that his line mates in both Chicago and Columbus weren't great but he was still scoring so we can only hope that continues.

You do realize contracts are coming off the books next season. Why does everyone assume rangers payroll stays the same year to year?

Forgot about that, thought he was 18 or 19. McD comparison is apt in this case.

My mornings are pretty hectic, one kid has hockey camp the other has soccer camp and my little one has school, day starts with us leaving the house at 7 getting breakfast followed with dropoffs at their respective locations and then I sign on to my work computer so that I can get new items I need to work on
