On a positive note, there is lots of buzz lately on Ville Heinola. The kid is looking outstanding and getting rave reviews. Chevy and the scouts may have pulled another rabbit out of their hat. The Finnish hockey program has been producing some outstanding talent the last few years. I'm glad the Jets have snagged a bunch of them. Jacob who ? |

Please don't put the "Rexy jinx" on his career before he even plays a game in the NHL. |

Outside of this year due to salary cap constraints, how many players have left Winnipeg via free agency? The number is 1 and that was Frolik. If players did not want to be here, they would not be signing long term deals, see Wheeler, Little, Perreault, Kane, Bogosian, Pavelec, Enstrom, Byfuglien, etc... All those players had the option to sign up until they became unrestricted free agents to leave but none did.
Thank you for coming out! - TheUltimateJet
The only reason most of those players resigned was because they got offers no other GM in his right mind would match. Wheeler, Little, Enstrom, Pavelic and Byfuglien would not get those offers from other teams. That was THE major reason they stayed. Perreault’s deal had more years than anyone would offer but it was not an unreasonable price. I can’t believe you even added Pavelec to the list? The Jets gave him $19+ mil in 2012 and by 2014 they were talking buyout of the last 3 years! It was one of the worst contracts!
Chevy has signed 1 really good contract that is tying up Scheifele at a reasonable price. The Byfuglien extension was crazy as he is not worth it either! 5 more years of Wheeler at $8+ mil starting at age 32! 5 more years of Little?
The jury is still out on 6 years of Ehlers, could be great or could be awful... and we are still waiting to see about Connor and Laine!
As for Kane & Begosian, how did that turn out? What does Chevy have left to show for that trade? Myers, Armia, Stafford, Lemieux all gone? Just Roslovic...

Seriously? Have you not seen what UFA’s get every year! And I mean every single year! Everyone of those players would have got those deals as UFA’s. Every single one. Wheeler is in the top 5 combined points for the past 4 years. Little makes exactly what other 2nd and some 3rd line centers are getting. Ehlers deal is an absolute steal and teams would have paid more to get Buff. I can list 50 contracts (if I had time and cared to) if worse contracts signed in the July over the last 5-10 years.

Yeah, no. His post was hot garbage.
-Wheeler would’ve gotten more due to being tall. The Jets got lucky getting him cheap the first go around, and while the newest deal is AIDS, you know Fenton’s Minnesota regime would’ve thrown 10 per at him.
-Buff came cheap the first go round in Atlanta because he wasn’t a guarantee. He could’ve gotten a bigger deal in free agency on the newer deal, too, but chose the Jets.
-Enstrom would’ve gotten more in free agency on his last, too. Back to back 50 point seasons while playing ludicrous minutes and signing at 27 tends to do that. He chose Winnipeg.
-Little had a 30 goal season, multiple NHL years spent at different positions, and youth on his side for his first Jets deal. Someone would’ve gambled. The latest deal is bad because of term, not cap hit.
-Pavelec was a gamble that didn’t pay off during a time where cap space wasn’t an issue, and no replacement was available.
As for Kane and Bogo, those deals made sense. Only unexpected circumstances caused Chevy to bail on them. You can’t predict a top young player hating your city or having a love affair for... skiing.
P.S. Both of Perreault’s Jets deals were, are, and will remain absolute steals. This can be said of Scheifele, Ehlers, and Lowry as well. Copp and Morrissey are gonna be big next go around, and Hellebuyck is just kinda meh as a contract. |

Buff will retire here as well its said. Has no intention of going anywhere else unless perhaps Minny, if at all. |

The Laine Stan Club is just logical.

You mean like the leafs are doing with everyone to.
Taveras gets top dollar ( sorry, one team offered more, whoppi, all that means is two teams were willing to pay top dollar)
Mathews gets top dollar and walked to UFA status
Marner WILL probably get 10 mill on 2-3 year deal.
Willy gets 7
Show me where players took less to live in Toronto? No difference. - Ross77
Tavares signed with the Leafs for the least amount of $ he was offered. And that's the biggest UFA any team-U.S or Canadian has signed in over a decade.

and that doesn't make it a deal, it just means multiple teams were willing to over pay for him, which the Leafs did. and wasn't it only the sharks who offered more. |

Tavares may be worth that money, but the Leafs already had enough talent up front and might have spent the money more wisely on their defence. |

Yup. I do feel that D is slightly over-hyped, and if you have those dynamic forwards, you can forgo expensive offensive D. However, Toronto is in for a shot once Marner takes 11M+ AAV, as Muzzin is due for a 2M raise, and if Barrie can get his 3rd consecutive 60+ point season, will be up for at least a 6M raise in his 2.75M cap hit. Leafs are victims of the Stanley cup cap crunch despite not having won a playoff round!!!!! Yikes |

Cept when we win next year. Then the narrative will change.
Also, any applicants to the Byfuglien Stan Club must pass a physical which consists of 8 Circuits at the Royal Fork Buffet. |
