I'm assuming it will be because they sign Miroslav Satan to a big contract. - Atomic Wedgie
To a 17 year 100 million dollar contract! Great guess |

It's a (frank)ing travesty that Satan never played for the Devils. |

My office is a ghost town.
I'm hoping to fade away around 3 pm.
Want to hear the saddest franking True Wedgie Story® ever?
For reasons I don't want to get into (Mrs. Wedgie franked up), we need to board the dog for Saturday night.
Of course, all our friends are out of town, and the local kennels are all booked up. So we start shooting emails around last night through a service that is essentially Air BnB for dogs.
One woman emails back - she won't be in town on the weekend, but would it be OK if she brought our dog up to her cottage?
There you have it, folks: My wife and I stuck in the city alone this long weekend, and our franking dog just got a cottage invite from a stranger.

Matthews/Tavares is the sickest 1-2 punch in the NHL, including Crosby/Malkin (primarily due to age, though).
Barrie is a HUGE upgrade over Gardiner. Most forget that Barrie almost single handedly shut down the Flames offense in the playoffs... if he brings that same intensity to the Leafs during this year's playoffs, we are LAUGHING our way into at LEAST the 2nd round.
Kerfoot > Kadri. He plays much bigger than he is, he is younger, smarter and has a way better handle on his emotions. My bet is a career year alongside Moore and Kapanen to form one of the better 3rd lines in the league.
Spezza is the best 4th line C in the entire NHL.
Ceci = Zaitsev at the very least.. many would argue that he was mishandled in Ottawa.
Hainsey was a solid dman once. His tenure with the Leafs was not a balanced affair. It was really good for Hainsey in that he parlayed it into an overpayment from the Sens. It was horrible for the Leafs in that he was on the ice WAY too often, and people had this false sense of his value. Addition by subtraction.. totally agree with whoever made that comment earlier.
Speaking of addition by subtraction, am I the only one who is excited that Johnsson and Moore are going to get more ice time with Marleau gone?? These are skilled young kids who are hungry and tenacious on the puck. Split that extra 15 mins that Marleau was playing and give Johnsson and Moore an extra 7:30 of ice time a piece and watch how many more goals we score/prevent.
If we can prevent even 3 or 4 more goals across a 7 game series with this lineup (and I definitely think we can), we are going to be really excited come April, May and possibly June. We just need Freddie to stop the biscuit. And if he plays 6-10 less games during the regular season, he will be that much sharper come playoff time. Neuvirth wins the backup spot out of camp and plays 26 games with the buds, and goes 15-7-2. Big improvement over Sparks.
This team is WAY better on paper than last year's squad. Matthews is named Captain coming out of training camp, plays a full 82 games, and hits 50 goals.
JT hits around 45 goals, similar production to last year. Still the best free agent signing in the modern era.
Nylander looked super-human in the Worlds.. I see a huge bounce-back season for his first 70 point season.
Rielly takes a little bit of a production dip to 60 points, but Barrie maintains his production, so we have two 55+ point dmen.
Sandin makes the team out of camp and takes Dermott's spot while Dermott is injured. He plays so solidly as a rookie that they cannot send him back down when Dermott returns, so Dermott slots in next to him as a lefty on the right side. That pairing goes on to have a stronger season than anticipated and becomes the 2nd pairing next year when Ceci and Muzzin are gone.
Marner signs for 10M over 6 seasons and hits 100 points in his 2nd season with JT.
I agree with Craig Button when he said this is absolutely a Championship caliber team if they get the goaltending they need in the playoffs. - Snowman X

Sweet we can get back to the Marner talks..
why would Marners side ask for double what NK got...3 years ago. Thats not reasonable.. if its true at all, then he wants to sit out. holy F - senstroll
Apparently countered with 3 x 10? Yeesh ...I doubt that happened but if it did then ya it's a '(frank) you I want to leave' offer.
I think the real 'report' around July 1 was Leafs had offered 8 x 10 and MM was prepared to do 10 but over 5 years.
I maintain my 6 x 9.5 as the 12th hour deal. And frankly I think the delay is simply because there is no deadline or pressure at this point. Leafs probably have 6 x 9 and/or 8 x 10 on the table and Marner's side will wait it out.
Who's going to blink?
Maybe the 'give in' from the Leafs side is giving MM that 5 year deal. I really don't think it's an issue. Let them all become free agents at the same time. Leafs will have all the cap space and presumably will be competitive. |

I’m not to concerned either.
Leafs have enough cap space to accommodate what he is looking for especially if he doesn’t want the 7/8 year deal.
During his charity event I think he said he is pretty confident they’ll get something done. |

Mirtle has an article today saying that all the other RFAs are waiting for Marner to sign - it will set the bar.
So I'm hoping it's stupid high, so that fans of other teams end up hating the Leafs.
Because that would be something new and exciting. |

I'm a Canadian living in the US, big office. Two people have come up to me this week asking me if I'm worried about Marner signing.
First was a Philly fan, response was "what about Provorov and Konecny?" They had no idea they weren't signed.
Next was a jackets fan, response was "What about Werenski?". Again, no idea he wasn't signed.
It's amazing |

"Marner setting the bar" - We keep hearing that and I'm curious why that is. Maybe he is the best but there's a good argument that Rantanen or Point should be the guys setting the bar. They all scored at a similar pace.
Rantanen was awesome in the playoffs - 14 pts in 12 playoff games.
Point is a centre and is regarded as being really good in his own end.
I feel like this is a Toronto media thing. |

I'm sure they'll answer:
"Well with Bobrovsky in net and Panarin up front, we should still make the playoffs"

Ditto.
You and I may have opinions on how these guys compare to each other, but every agent thinks that his client is better than Marner. |

It's all due to the non-stop year of Marner talk everywhere. It's the same with the Leafs cap situation. There are so many teams in much worse shape but no one is aware. |

A place like Sportsnet is losing millions and millions on their NHL deal. They desperatly need ratings. Boring, realistic hockey talk won't do it. Marner leaving due to offersheets? Bam! Ratings! |

Ya, there's a pretty good argument that Aho is every bit on par with these guys too. Wouldn't surprise me if the GM's in Colorado, Toronto and TB all said there you go 5 x 8.5 ...the market is set.
He's a #1 centre with a power game. PPG player who had a great playoffs.
He signed the offer sheet so the money (in his mind) had to be right. |
