The only problem that I see with signing Stone or Shattenkirk is they both aren't good.
And the salary cap.
And too many contracts. - Atomic Wedgie
Shattenkirk at league minimum? Deal.
He’ll look good with Sandin on the Marlies. |

The Growlers could use a veteran presence.
Good in the dressing room.
Teach the kids how to be gud pros, so that they can one day become valuable pieces of the Marlies.

Of the 2 Stone would make the most sense. He's a stay-at-home guy, blocks a lot of shots and lays the body. He also can be nasty in front of the net and is bigger. Would be a reasonable 3rd pairing guy at a cheap price. |

i watched him quite a bit in AZ. it was cringe-worthy. he couldn't skate or pass his way out of the zone. but that didn't really matter, as he couldn't cause a turnover anyways.
i don't really remember him being physical.
he had a good shot, but a slow windup and slow foot-speed made it worthless.
there was nothing he actually did well. |

Sorry, Lillybust isn't a RHD contender for the bottom-pair? |

Cheap veteran defensive depth is much needed come playoff time. It’s what every team looks for at the deadline in case of injury. |

You aren’t going to see a ton of Lilybust this year. His ELC bonuses would carry over to next year due to the Leafs’ use of LTIR. I mean, unless of course he blows the door a off of the coaching staff in camp. |

He's a contender for the position, yes? That would be my point. |

Leafs can't afford either one of them because of the garbage known as Ceci eating up the cap space required as well as the spot in the line-up.
Again, had they front loaded his contract, maybe they could have dumped him by now.
But either way, neither Shattenkirk nor Stone are very much of an improvement anyway.
Shattenkirk and Stone are both one-way D. Shattenkirk doesn't know where his own zone is and Stone knows it too well and doesn't know how to get out of it.
If they signed either one of them it'd have to be for a price so low they'd have zero interest in playing for it. |

Any player not already on the roster would. It’s just now the salary cap does play a role in decisions, whether we or the people running the teams like it. Him playing this year, well most of the year, would trigger some bonuses to be attributed towards the cap in 2020-2021. Maybe Dubas doesn’t give a poop. I’m just a hockey fan that read an article that he might. |
