I personally would not be interested in the cost it would take to trade for him in addition to the cost it would take to sign him.

The same reason I don't cry about "losing out" on trades for average players and waiver pickups of bad players.

It definitely includes the LTIR candidates.
- TheSabresTaco

May not be reading correctly, but I add up $70.8m in NHL contracts plus Kessel's retained salary. This does not include any AHL salary. Capfriendly has their cap hit at $84.4 and expected salary at $97.8. Their projected LTIR is $13.7, but includes Hyman and Dermott who both should be back sometime in November.
So how are the minors contracts figured against the cap on Capfriendly?

Going down the Laine path again for my amusement

Realistically what would it take to get him? Risto a 1st and what?

What would you think would be fair compensation? I am thinking 5 years $9 million per

- Stripes77

I honestly think Risto + Sheary + Hunwick and a mid-rounder can work

$44,783,866(F's) + $19,050,000 (D's) + $5,700,000 (G's) + $13,663,333 (IR's) + $1,200,000 (Retained) = $84,367,199.

2 of those IRs will not be LTIR, Dermott and Hyman. So Day 1 of the season without Marner, their cap hit is $73,817,199

Salary /= Cap Hit

1 example, Callahans salary this year is $4,700,000 but his cap hit is $5,800,000.

As for your question, minor league cap hits under $1,075,000 are not calculated into the NHL cap.

Also, with Marner signed that gives them 14/8/2, 1 player over the limit. They can send down Aberg and Holl or whoever, without cap implications, giving them an additional 1.5M or so. So day 1 without Marner is about 72.5M

That would help. If they buyout Sobotka (1.5 cap hit). start Bogo and Pilut on IR and waive Nelson and Wilson, they'll have a little cap space. Just a guess.

If they trade Risto, my guess is they'll take similar salary/cap hit in return so that's a wash. Moving Scandella and buying out one of either Sobotka or Hunwick should be done.

Ullmark at 1.5 and starting the year with Oloffson and either Ruotsalainen or Tage on the roster with their low cap hits also helps. Still lots to do.

- mhp

Buying out a player that only has this coming season left on his contract makes zero sense.

Trade them or waive them, but do not extend out their cap hit when it's not necessary.

The Sobotka buyout is 1.5 this year and 1m next year. Hunwick buyout is $1,083,333 this year and $583,333 next season. Botts has no choice imo. He needs cap savings now.
- mhp

Why? Just waive them and be done with their contracts after this coming season? Why extend the cap hit?

Since a trade needs to happen, it really doesn't matter what happens to Sobotka. His entire cap, or a player making at least his cap hit must be exorcised from this team.

Portillo starting for Sweden. Cronholm on third pair, Cederqvist on third line.

If he's not waived, I'll be shocked. Trading him would be even more shocking.

Just a random question. After the Montour trade and Sabres sending Guhle our way - who if I recall correctly from Sabres fans on this thread was 2nd or 3rd D prospect for you -

Why all the D men that aren't Buff draft picks and homegrown??

I thought from those comments Sabres were stacked with Kids ready to step in and play meaningful minutes this yr -

- dozerD10

murray traded away Z and Myers
and really only drafted guhle and borgen in his 2 year tenure, others did not pan out

guhle has lots of talent, but either positioning issues or would not buy into the system, so he was parted for montour

important to note, guhle was a murray guy, not a botts guy

Botts had an empty pipeline when he took over, of course McCabe and Risto home grown

Dahlin went straight to the big leagues

and we have decent prospects now that will be ready in a few years

we'd be lucky if he did one buyout as he really doesn't like them...he should make an exception for Sobotka...Hunwick he can waive, will be very useful in rochester
- Michael Pachla

As much as i dislike Sobatka,
he might be “fine” in a 4th line defensive role

Just don’t let that guy in the top9 ever again

Problem is,
we probably have at least 4 guys that we’d prefer be on line4

After this season we will have a bunch of this dead weight gone though
So that’ll be a nice relief

Just trying to put together lines

Skinner (guy who goes to the dirty areas and cleans up) with Eichel (the true play maker) and Laine (Sniper)

Oloffson (sniper) Mitts (Skilled guy play maker) Reinhart (does all the right stuff and takes a beating in front)

Skinner Eichel Laine
Olofsson Mitts Reinhart
Vesey ERod Mojo
Sheary Larsson Okposo

This team still needs a top 6 RWer without Laine, Mojo goes up to line 1 IMO and Okposo foes to line 3, Reinhart needs to be on line 2 to drive play something he does pretty well

I actually think the 3rd line would be solid

E-Rod is better up the middle IMO
