It appears Toronto is at approximately $84m in cap. This does not include the guys on LTIR. Add them in and they're over $97m. They still need to make moves to sign Marner. Last offer I saw was a bridge deal 3 years at $10m per.

That's what Marner wants, it's an obscene amount. That's like $14M on an 8 year deal. The cap is going to get a nice bump when Seattle joins. If Marner gets 3 for $30M his agent should be negotiating major trade agreements for Canada. I'm just assuming he's Canadian.

So here's the possiuble outcomes.

1. Ullmark comes in at 1.5M
2. This gives the Sabres -$1,234,524
3a. Sabres demote Sobotka, saving $1,075,000 (miniumum salary +375K), putting the Sabres at -$159,524.
3b. Sabres demote Hunwick, saving another $1,075,000, putting the Sabres at $915,476.
4. This cap does not allow for injury callups without any bodies on LTIR. You can't call up Pilut, Jokiharju, Ruotsalainen (assuming he's in Roch, highly unlikely), Cozens for 9 game tryout, Thompson, or even Hickey and Oglevie. Best you can do is Asplund, Olofsson and Borgen. That's assuming one single injury at any one point during the season. Unrealistic.
5. Therefore, you need (highly desire) about maybe 3M or more so space to be able to make these callups when necessary.
6. With those 2 demoted, you have a roster of 12,8,2, with one callup (fight for full timer) Olofsson, setting your cap at $147,976
7. Therefore, even if you send both down, Botterill MUST trade at least one NHL salary.

If you choose to BO Sobotka instead and do the rest above, you save an additional $925K, setting your final cap before trades at $1,072,976. This number will allow for ONE callup at any point during the season. Again, Botterill is more conservative than to allow this to happen. He's literally up against a wall if 2 players get injured at any one time. Again, he is now forced to trade a player.

We all keep saying things like "just another year of Bogo...", "Sobotka and Hunwick will be gone soon...". I think we'll be saying things like this forever. Every team has their Bogo's, Sobotka's, and Scandella's and fans are constantly yelling for their release. Two years from now we'll be clamoring for, I dunno ... Ullmark, Skinner, whomever to be bought out ? Hell, people will probably call for Jack's head in a few years too. I've come to the conclusion that there will ALWAYS be players we'll be trying to railroad out of town. Having a sh!tty contract or 3 is just part of the business. We all just need to deal with it better and not get so upset about it.

Again, crappy contracts are part of every team. Shouting about it here while adding threats and insults isn't going to accomplish anything. Anything positive, anyway.
