Fair enough. I'd just much rather listen to Burkie call a game than Doc Emrick yell-read from the thesaurus and have that greasy bald little weirdo sucking guys off on the ice between whistles. - eichiefs9
Those guys are the worst, but the secondary crews are decent. I miss Dave Strader, really wish while he was alive, he was the #1 announcer. Him and Pang were 100X better. |

Yea, that's fair. Burke actually gets quite a bit of work in the early rounds of the playoffs as one of the "B-squad" guys. He does a really great job calling games. Which probably means he's not going to stick around calling Isles games for too long.
I think most Islander fans get pissed off because it's a respect thing, but that's not really a thing I care about anymore |

3 million for 11 points. Maybe I should retract my position that paying Trouba 8 million was too much. What's Mcavoy and Werenski getting 10? |

pretty good write-up about about the current state of the left side of the blue line.
Sean Day not included

Doesn’t Day play the right side even though he’s a lefty? I think the chances he reaches the NHL is slim at this point regardless. |

I think he's been tried on both sides. I'm with you, I think his chances of a pro career are slim and none. However, he might be the biggest wild card in the whole org. He has the skills, if he ever could just get smarter than a pile of rocks, he could put up numbers. |

7 points, 1 goal and 6 assists is awesome? I mean that sounds like Rick Nash level, and I mean I guess he was making 7.8 a season... So maybe 3.1 isn't that bad. |

You're right, he's played both sides. I'd imagine he'll stay on the left since Hartford has at least 3 rd's now. He had a good 2nd half last year, so maybe he takes another step this year.

not sure, but I know they usually suck covering up defensively in their own zone - jimbo83
That's because they had Lindy Ruff as their defensive coach. Biggest disappointment of the off season? Not letting David Quinn bring his own young defense coach in. I thought maybe Sather kept Ruff around in case Quinn faltered. He didn't. With Ruff's sponsor and former teammate in Buffalo, Jim Schoenfeld, now retired, I thought for sure Davidson and Gorton would let Quinn hire a young guy to help develop the plethora of young, talented defensemen. You know, someone who isn't about to collect social security and is in tune with the younger players and the systems available to employ them in. The defense has looked God awful at times under Ruff.....like a Chinese fire drill. How many times is a guy wide open in front of the net? Ruff must go! |

I think you missed my joke, but I agree, I have no love for Lindy Ruff
the only thing I will say is that I remember during the season last year they had this video with the coaches behind the scenes and Quinn and Ruff seem to get along great and Quinn talked a lot about how he leaned on him.
I also think JD has a good relationship with Ruff. I dont see him going anywhere anytime soon. |

So here's today's topic to pass the time. For the Rangers (or the Isles for you Chiefs, heck Bingo if you are lurking you can play too), build the best team with a $200 salary cap. You get 3F, 2D, 1 G. For each regular season game played with the team, it costs you 1 dollar, but you get their whole career. You can't pick anyone with a 0 value (so like Trouba is DQd they had to play at least one regular season game) Here is my team:
C E Staal ($20)
F Glenn Andersson ($12)
F Pavel Bure ($51)
D Andre Dupont ($7)
D Kevin Hatcher ($74)
G Terry Sawchuk ($8)
Total $172
I thought about putting guys like Mccabe, Ozolinch, or even Jim boy Hamrlik, but I like pairing a mean tough D like Dupont with Hatcher. I actually think that the Blues might have the best team out of the whole league with this. They get to have the great one and fatso and then it really doesn't matter who else you throw out there. |

I'm not sure how I missed this one. I forgot how good that guy was. THough looking up his 92-93 148 pt season a) made me wonder how the Sabres were a barely 500 team and b) gave me PTSD about our year that year. I had purged that crap from my memory. |
