According to CapFriendly the Shattenkirk signing puts the Bolts at 49 players under contract. Erne or Point?? Hmmm? |

Mister Softee joining a team full of softees. Regular season warriors get another tinkerbelle point compiler who specializes in being a liability in the playoffs. Nice move Julien. |

In Hedmans defense he may have been suffering from concussion symptoms |

Damn, I do believe you are correct! |

So, as long as he is in Tampa does he get to take advantage of the Florida taxes for the remaining contract the Rangers will be paying him? If so, well played sir, well played... - dunner84
Asking the important questions. Well done, sir! |

Hedman was clearly hurt and should not have played games 1 and 2. Glad they removed him for 3 and 4. |

He’s been a mess for 3-4 years. He was made to look good in St. Louis because of their great dmen. - leafluver27
For a 1 year flyer on a guy who can play in your bottom four its a fine contract. If they can get a better game out of him then say Jan Rutta as the 6th Dman then that is a decent return for a small cap hit and no lengthy contract. That is all I am saying. |

Huh? Do u follow more than Chicago? He’s a train wreck. Tampa definitely didn’t need another mistake on defense. - leafluver27
Yes I do, but following Chicago I know that Shatty is an upgrade over Rutta at half the price - hence a great deal.

Definitely the concussion. But Heddy is no gifted dman in his own zone. He’s one of those go in the corners guys that comes out of the corners with eggs in his pockets uncracked |

I think it will be a bridge deal. No idea on numbers so I will just guess and say 3 years 6-8M dollar range.
I say a bridge deal because if I am a RFA right now I would want to take a bridge deal. In two years time when Seattle enters the league and the new television deal takes affect the cap is going to go up. So again if I'm an RFA I am betting on myself take the bridge and land an even bigger contract on my 24-26 year old hockey year.

Not a Shattenkirk fan, but does anyone else find it odd that the "rebuilding" Rangers had to buy him out and the Cup favorite Lightning could pick him up? |

players should not be able to sign with another team while they are being paid out on a contract... or if they do sign, they should forego their payout... |

But he's already rocked a 40g 90p + season. He can cash in now. $9million minimum |

No, not at all. He was bought out therefore making it easy for a contending team to pick him up for cheap.
It's no surprise Tampa would be a destination. Highest cup odds, nice weather and no state tax. Was pretty much a given he would sign there. |

Yeah, I think maybe that's why Marner is looking at a 3-4 year deal right now.

If he slots in to the 3rd pairing alongside Coburn and gets sheltered minutes, then I have no problem with this signing. He is probably no worse than Schenn or Rutta.
If Cooper puts him with Hedman, I am gonna have a rage stroke.

It'll be less funny when they win the cup. I mean Shatty isn't going to put them over the top per se but they are stacked from their non-Ranger talent plus use the Blueskirts as their farm team. Seems like a good system. - Queenie_5_hole
I dunno what you're thinking, Giradi was a buyout, Stralman was a UFA signing, Cally was breaking down and we knew it, Brian Boyle was nothing to write home about outside of the faceoff circle. so farm system no, Ranger castoffs yeah. The only player of value to go there from us was McD and well when he is THE man it ain't great when he is 2nd pairing top notch. Miller shows flashes of being a solid player but then he falls back to earth, anyone I forgot? |
