Shattenkirk the guy who hid behind Petriangelo, got cut loose and has been an absolute liability. Their past seaon were almost identical (10 assist difference) but one guy had 56% ozone starts and PP time while Braun has 41% dzone starts and had no PP time

I would say Shattenkirk was more so hidden behind the Blues defense then one player such as Petriangelo. There is no denying everyone here knew Petriangelo was a really, really good number one defender in this league but I don’t think we saw how great he was and his secondary (Jay Bouwmeester and Colton Parayko)until this past playoffs. Giving a player like Kevin Shattenkirk offensive starts and sheltering him from defensive situations is no different from what we do with Gostishebere or what’s been done with Erik Karlsson most of his career. I think Erik Karlsson ever winning a Noris is a joke but this is another conversation.

With this said, if anyone can turn Kevin Shattenkirk a winner, it’s Tampa Bay.

The ozone starts was in reference to the little point discrepancy. Yes, the group as a whole sheltered him. Great move by Tampa but to sit there and say we have Braun and had to pay x and x is absurd.

One guy plays the tough minutes, does a fine job while the other plays the not so tough minutes and hasn't produced lately, do we really need a past his prime offensive Dman that has looked like a shell of himself since leaving St. Louis and was exposed in Washington in his short time? We have guys that can play PP and move the puck, we don't need an old washed up version.

Im thinking you should have emailed the Flyers brass last month to let them know the Rangers were going to buy him out.

In fact, since you knew it was going to happen and you sat on that info, that makes you an A-one toolbag.

Ok, now that I got that silly post out of the way to rival the silliness in your own, damn right I would rather have those picks and that cap space to sign Shattenkirk over Braun. (whose trade I disagreed with from the start and still do)

Now now. He played the right side behind Karlsson and Burns and played as a shut down pairing with Vlasic.

Yup. Hid behind Karlsson and Burns with all those sheltered defensive zone starts and late game shutdown shifts.

I don't really believe that. It's his call as to how the guys make their approaches at the plate and his management of the bullpen has been suspect.

There's also the whole issue that he doesn't really ever hold guys accountable.

Lists are lists. With his two way play, in my opinion, Couturier belongs on the list. It's a popularity contest and flashy offensive players get more spotlight on them. I'd rather build my team around a 70 point Selke level 1st line center than a 90 point one way center.

He's got to go. He doesn't have command of the clubhouse and far too often he burns his bull pen out. Part of that is the starter performance for sure but he doesn't seem to be able to manage his way around that.

With result of what? 2 goals, 14 assists in 78 games, with a minus 14 rating on a contending team? Great! Braun averages just under 18 minutes a game last season, it doesn’t mean he played well. Braun also isn’t the only player on this ice but he’s one of very few players on the Sharks where their numbers were effected.

In my opinion, the trade was Unnecessary. We should spit shine a turd and convince ourselves it’s pretty. A turd in a Tuxedo is still a turd.

Aside from the weird details of the Gudas/Niskanen deal, this is the only trade I’m fine with. I would rather the kids play through their growing pains.

I doubt Shattenkirk wanted 1.75 deal with flyers. Tampa was best team last year and is still stacked. at this point in his career he prob wants a ring over the big check which Tampa makes the most sense imo. He’s made plenty of money already. Plus is still paid by Rangers.

Why not wait till the season starts and wait for at least half a season to see how the trade works out. Not saying you will, but people would female dog and moan about the GM not getting the young players enough help just like Hexy failed to.
