Jonathan Toews is one of the 100 best hockey players of all time.

Not sure how this is relevant or what it's supposed to mean

A few years back, the NHL put out a list of its 100 greatest players ever. Jonathan Toews made it. So take any list with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't trade Couturier straight up for any of Couture, Kuznetsov or Backström (despite their respective playmaking wizardry), O'Reilly (Conn Smythe Trophy notwithstanding) or Monahan. Possibly even Seguin, too, because Couturier still contributes more as a 200-foot player although Seguin's all-around game has improved a lot.

Then you'd still have guys like Draisaitl, Toews, Larkin, Barzal knocking on the door. I can't say that Coots is clearly better than any of those guys.

Forget Coots, Claude is the clear omission.

Come on season

We will have to see on Braun.

Could be two groups

1. Liked the trade or understood the trade

2. Hated the trade and could care less why.

25 games in let’s revisit , we can assault the losers

I believe I’m in 1, didn’t like the overpay but it was market and I understand and agree with why Fletcher did it. We needed leadership back there, no more keystone cops.

wasnt an overpay.

Isn't Giroux primarily a winger now?

Though I have turned into a Coots supporter big time I take players like McDavid, Draisaitl or Kucherov over him 100% of the time.

Sorry to me it can't always be about the 200 foot, defensively sound game. Nothing wrong with a player that is just flat out entertaining or electric to watch if that comes at the expense of a little defense.

Well yes, there are a handful of elite superstars out there where you can sacrifice defense because they're so good offensively. He's not in their league.

It was an overpay as it sits today, he could play well enough to make it not an overpay

The Flyers did pay market for him, the market was an overpay

I reviewed this list in every category.
http://www.nhl.com/stats/...layed,gte,1&sort=evPoints

Holey Moley. Crosby, the snake oily sucker, was essentially tied with G in nearly every area.
Coots failed to be in the top twenty in: A/GP (23rd), PPP (tied 39). In the frequently discarded +/- (I like it for general sorting. It's lazy and easy.) 9th.
That they would be BOTH excluded from consideration, demonstrates a bias that I hope causes outrage. (It did for me, ARRRGGGGHHHH!) and that Coots decides to score on the PP for revenge.
Please.

Serious question: Would you rather have Kapler or Charlie Manuel managing this team? Because from many accounts, the 08 team won a World Series despite Manuel.
- jmatchett383

Charlie, as long as pitching coach Rich Dubee is part of the package. Manuel was smart enough to let Dubee handle the pitchers and he got the most out of his players on a consistent basis.

Again...wasn't Giroux primarily a winger the last 2 years?

He played a lot of C last season, tho. And who knows, plans be damned, he could end up playing a lot of C this upcoming season too. He's head and shoulders above half the guys on that list. Maybe all but 5.

I think that baseball is the sport least impacted by coaching. I'm oversimplifying it, but all you need to do is bat the same 7 guys in order every day, maybe switching 1 player every 2 or 3 days, ask your pitching coach who should be warming up, and pull the pitcher once he reaches an arbitrary pitch count.

Baseball is a 1-on-1 sport, there's no great on-field chemistry. And since a player can't re-enter once leaving, you can't make on-the-fly changes to get every matchup you want. You need to have a feel for how the game is going, but that's something most fans could do.

I'm not saying Gabe Kapler should or shouldn't stay on as coach, I just don't see what a new coach will do that will transform this group into a contender in the next month.

I would disagree and say it is basketball......

Wasn't it more of just taking draws? Coots still on the line, or were they broken up for an extended period?

I think a lot of it was Coots would line up, try to cheat, and it was fine if they tossed him because Giroux would take it and then switch back to wing.

That as well as whoever was on their strong side, both guys well above 50% in the dot, it would be stupid not to.

Also, I'm sure I'm not alone that I couldn't care less where they sit on an arbitrary list as long as they play well and the team wins.

Putting Charlie in the same conversation as Kapler is ridiculous. What an idiotic would you rather.

Back in his time, especially 2009-2011, a lot of people seemed to think he was a less than capable manager who simply got by because his team was so stacked. Part of that was probably his personality and the way he spoke, but that was the consensus before he left.

Yes it is, don’t think any of us have the facts on this.

Overpay is based upon giving up a 2nd and a 3rd for a rental most likely. Again, I like the trade and understand the logic. It the Flyers gave up 2 decent picks and a good bit of cap

I think Braun will prove worth it

You have to give to get. 2 picks for a legit top 4 dman is not a big deal to me.

While it is early do you think the resign him?
