As a life-long fan, I have never felt more disconnected from the team. Fan favourites have a year window to succeed and are traded for way less then they are worth. There is no veteran on this team that fans feel close to or have good memories with. The prospect pool is not exciting and lacks high end talent. We have one of the worst owners in the history of professional sports who constantly calls out fans for not supporting his penny-pinching ways.

Actually, this is pretty good. Part of renewal is the need to hit and admit bottom. You are using the language of acceptance. The anger is gone, replaced by sadness and disappointment. You have separated out the ownership issue from everything else and it gives you a clarity of vision around what is really important. No sense taking it out on the team and especially the kids who will be trying to make a difference.

First off, Turris was traded for a better player, to try and bolster the teams chances. Backfired, but the effort was there. When Duchene was traded, he was a true rental and I could argue the return might be as high as what we paid. Karlssons return reeks of future, same with Stone and Dzingel. The prospect pool is so full we could ice a 1.5 - 2.0 teams at the moment, but we lack 1st line talent, but some much depth I am having a hard time picking which should be used in the top 9, because lots qualify. Welcome to a rebuild. You dump veterans for picks and prospects, hit prospect overload and start adding key pickups to add to the core to start pushing again.

I have the hardest time not seeing Chabot, Tkachuk, White, Brown, *Tierney, *Duclair, Batherson, Forementon, *Balcers, *Davisson, *Abramov, *Norris, *Demelo, *Brannstrom, Wolanin, *Thomson, Daccord, *Gustavsson, Hogberg as not an exciting prospect pool, with the oldest being 26 years old and all the * being beside players/picks recently brought in by way of trade. Even the Zaitsev trade brings potential, removes a problem contract, which we have few of now. If your not excited about that, I can't help you, but this feels like what Chicago and Pittsburgh went thru, without the 1st overall pick, just before they got respect.

My issue with the guys moved are Duchene, Stone, Karlsson, and Hoffman. I was advocate for the Turris trade. I recognized the effort in that move. Trying to upgrade at #1 C. Duchene is one of my favourite players. The guys in my list should have been guys to build around. All in their primes. It didn’t happen for a variety of reasons. What happens when Chabot and Tkachuck are in their primes looking for new deals? Can’t overlook the ownership. I have no problem with a rebuild in theory. I do have a problem seeing the ownership being able to keep a contending team together. It’s already fallen apart. Talent retention has not existed here, like at all, since the Cup run.

The prospect pool currently is not as great as you make it seem. Lots of possible depth players but not elite talent. That’s what you hope to get in the next couple of years. Just because someone is young doesn’t meant they will turn into a good NHLer. Always find it comical a team plummets and immediately, the prospect pool is top notch. Gotta look around the league more. While Ottawa’s current pool is not the worst, it is not the best either. Middle of the pack. Not a bad thing but nothing to get ahead of yourself for. Next couple of drafts are extremely important.

I will give you that the current road, the organization can certainly turn the ship around if done correctly. Getting a real nice prospect at the draft would do wonders. My view is that the team went down the toilet in a pretty dramatic fashion. I have never seen a team trade away so many great players in their prime before. Until ownership is fixed, it will be very hard to get super excited due to the possibility of it all happening again. I don’t really think I am alone there.

He had 23 points in 70 games and was one of the worst centres in the league in terms of overall value. He's pretty washed. Plus they have Tierney, Anisimov, and Pageau, they don't need it more crowded.
