The cap is going up. There's plenty of $ to keep Barrie. - RogerRoeper

Not doubting that but money for D has to come from somewhere. If not traded then it’s all hopes on prospects. Not a bad thing. - Nighthawk
Late replying - with Sandin and Liljgren coming, if they manage it right and don’t burn an ELC year this season that’s two contributors - even as 4-6 guys - at a great value for 3 years. Sign Dermot. Muzzin, Barrie and Ceci come off the books opening up $11.25M. Fwd is set. |

Notice that all the other teams up against the cap don't get the same questions about how they'll improve? Such a double standard |

That the Habs make the playoffs? Yes, I've tried to propose that to a few Leafs fans on here all of them predictably didn't respond. |

My team gets no respect. Up against the cap with Tkachuk and Mangiapani still to sign. Prospect pool depleted. Only difference is we have a top 5 defence. Kids are alright. |

It's funny, somebody on here, sorry can't remember who said Toronto is not the centre of the hockey universe, yet here we are in August talking about a Toronto FA, when there are arguably at least 2 other better FA (Point and Rantanen) and some others on the same level as Marner. But we talk about Marner - Ogimaa
You mean to say that 90% of posts are of Toronto fans talking about Toronto players and then use the post volume to justify they are the center of the universe.
I actually like Toronto's team, it'd be fun to watch them all season. But for gosh sakes, how about winning a playoff series once a century, eh? Until they can prove they are more than just a JV playoff squad against Montreal and Boston, the only universe they are the center of has a shrine with a big 'L' they pay homage to. |

Why the (frank) would Ceci do this?
Why would he want to go to UFA where he likely gets much less than 4.5?
Please understand how Qualified RFA’s work.
Hutton was not even qualified. Why? Because he sucks?
Nope, because if they did Hutton could of signed a 1 year 3 million dollar deal.
Ceci was qualified. He was signing 4.5 million at the minimum wether the Leafs liked it or not. - Santo_44
Yes, this is true, also why he is still available. |

Just because there are 3 offers, doesn't mean Marner is obligated to sign any of them.
6 years at 10 million, 8 years at 11 million...while looking nice are BOTH wayyyyyy outside the 11.5 over 5 years he wants close to.
6 years might be fine...if Leafs upped it to 11.5 or 12 million.
8 years might work too....if 14 million was the amount
But, none of the 3 offers you mentioned was close to the Matthews deal....and THAT is the ballpark Marner wants. Buckle up. This is going well into training camp, and likely the start of the season. - hawk35
So you're saying that the Leafs need to over pay him more than these "reported" over payment numbers?
Amazing. |

Loser has to have the other teams avatar and profess their love of the other team in their location...until the beginning of the next season.

I really like Marner. He is a great talent and appears to have all the tools that will enable him to become a game breaker when everything is on the line.
Does he bring enough to help get the Leafs over the hump? The Leafs have created a culture of failure. The have a remarkable history of choking. Hard to remember the last time they won a playoff round. Clearly Tavares and Matthews are part of the softness and choking that are the Leafs. I believe Marner is different and it would be a mistake for the Leafs to let him get away.
Also think, for the same reasons, it was an error to let Kadri leave. |

Tavares has never been able to lead a team, we have a long history of regular and post season failure. Matthews does not seem to have the fire to lead.
I have more hope when it comes to Marner. He does appear to have some fire in his belly. |
