It’s not rocket science, just simple math. League average for shooting percentage is 10%. He shot at 20% last year so unless you think he is a better shooter than Ovechkin/Stamkos/Kessel in their primes then his percentage will drop to the normal range.
Another way of saying this is without puck luck, he would’ve scored 14 goals last year. So do I think he’ll improve on a 14 goal expectation, YES! Do I think he’ll exceed his ridiculously lucky 28 goal performance, heck no!
And even if he did, he plays all offensive shifts, and is supremely sheltered. The top centers in the league go against the other teams top lines and still drive possession and scoring. Pettersson hasn’t had to do that yet.
So tougher competition, combined with a return to a normal shooting percentage guarantees he will struggle to reproduce his results from last year.
Doesn’t mean he sucks...doesn’t mean every team wouldn’t love to have him, cause he’s great, high ceiling, cheap, etc. All it means is he is not a top 20 center and he’s got some SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT ahead of him if he wants to be. - Dahlmanyotes

I think the same could be said about Flame fans if they had any fans. |

We try and trigger the Flames fans but they are so dull they cant even comprehend the most basic trolling. It's like waterboarding a fish. Fail...

For me, I think Woo is the successor to Tanev when he is gone.
Hughes-Woo
Edler-Stetcher
Benn-Myers
Maybe? - 93Nucks
Yeah looks like OJ and Woo are the draft and develop plan to replacing Edler and Tanev. Though Woo's development isn't likely ripe for next season. Thus timing wise a Tryamkin stop gap seems likely. Though upgrading to a Barrie signing would be ideal. |

Stetcher and Tanev out after this season... smells like another UFA signing on the right side. Barrie?
- boonerbuck
It's funny as I see him in Van as well. But if that rumored price tag is accurate, RUN FOR THE HILLS |

Yeah I guess that's possible, but I could see them going for Barrie. Just not at his proposed 8mil.
Sooner or later, the big RFA needs to stop so we see what we have in the young guys. |

I suspect the inverse.
Sakic said no to a trade for Barrie and Myers was the consolation prize.
I think Barrie could be revisited in the off season. |

I heard a comment on the radio today that I agree with. They said the roster is pretty much set now for the next two years.

I suppose it depends on how the season goes...
Good year = few changes (although I still think one or two additions are possible).
Bad year = more changes. |

I heard an interesting debate on SN650 today about moving Stecher at TDL. I have said a few times I would not pay him anymore than 2.5 for what he brings and would be all for trading him. I don't think he is anywhere near the 4 mil mark IMO.
I would be something like
Hughes ???
Edler Myers
Benn Tryamkin - VANTEL
Stecher plays a gutsy hard working game but his offence isn’t good yet nor maybe ever. 3rd pairing D if our prospects pan out.
Probably ends up out pricing himself my guess.

On that if cap space is there then...
Reign Edler a year at a time
Edler Barrie
Hughes Myers
OJ Woo
As OJ & Woo season more once in the NHL the options open up. Lots of offence but D is in question. Injury depth gets better. |

Looking like that other than injury call ups. I’m ok with where we stand & as time goes by even better. |

No argument there. He is a undersized player who plays with a lot of heart and not much skill. |

I guess it depends on where they picture Stetcher long term. I do agree that I wouldn't go to 4 with him. - 93Nucks
Running with that idea...
Myers is 1yr older @5/6m more physical and slightly better defence but behind in scoring & PP output. Barrie 7/7.5m would be what I’d be happy with. 8m is pushing it. Idk if any team out there is willing to pay 8m nor if 500k less to go home is more his liking. So much depends on vet contracts expiring & some trades to resign Petey & Hughsey. Projecting ahead & if JB is here or gone the cap will need to be well controlled. |

This all sounds fine but ignores other factors & the potential. They shut down his shooting lanes hard he dishes it to open players. He takes more shots & his % goes down he can still net 30-35 goals. League average means squat. Elite shooters simply are better.
It all means he’s easily a top 20C & can only get better. |

Not to mention he'll get to play with Hughes for 82 games not 5. |
