So most ppl dislike +/- but he we are discussing scoring%. It’s as bad or worse. It doesn’t include so many factors & is not a stand alone stat to say the least.
Quality of shot separates the elite from those who blast away eg Burns 5.3% or OV who is basically a one-timer shot machine.
EP can create on his own & drives the play vs other prolific scorers. That alone will up his %. His 144 shots is low & most likely will increase as he gets more comfortable.
More talent around will create more opportunities & options. Snipers with his skill are rare. Laine doesn’t have his tool kit but can score with best. Kucherov & Marchand are 2 examples of skill can get good scoring chances & goals others don’t get. Kane would be the best comparison of what EP can become. |

No, sorry. Those two are very different. You can consistently predict when someone will likely score less. Think there’s a good chance this doesn’t happen for Petey and they deploy some new strategies. But comparing shot percentage to +/- is an amateur move. For sure you should always
Collect more stats, such more dangerous shots ect., but that doesn’t make it not iseful to know the percentage of your shots are going in. +/- doesn’t hold for what’s actually going on in the game, while it’s somewhat informative there are much better stats that track the same thing (net positive of scoring/chances for and against). There’s not so many advanced shot percentage or shot accuracy stat yet, which is why shooting percentage is much more valid. |

If you followed from the start it was 20% scoring on 144 shots for 28 goals. He will drop off on his % but that’s only one part of the equation leading to total goals. I said 28+ he will get again. What do you predict? |

Trying another angle...
Sophomore slump aside unless EP will suffer one is one answer.
How many shots will Petey take?
How many goals or scoring%?
200 shots at 15% is 30 goals
He averaged 2shots/game last year |

You realize he is coming off of knee surgery and is not at 100%. - Reubenkincade
Why would he play in a non mandatory friendly if he was not 100%?
I think he is 100% healed and just not conditioned very well but my point remains... he didnt do well and was only used in one game. There's a chance he may not even make the main team this winter... well see.

Stetcher, Biega, not much difference.
Little guys that try real hard but end up not doing much. - Marwood
Stetcher is one of the best D in the league on the PK. Had best numbers 2 seasons ago or was it last season... can't remember. Biega... not an NHL D man. |

EP has an elite shot. I don't think we need to worry about him regressing down to 10% at league average, he'll probably settle around 14-15% which means he only needs 180-200 shots to hit 28 goals which is doable. I highly doubt he's going to take 288 shots, it's just not his style and he doesn't need to take that many shots to be an elite player since he's a gifted playmaker and an excellent finisher.
I'd actually retract my previous statement and say that EP has a decent shot at hitting 28 goals again if he stays healthy and only misses a few games.
I'm still expecting more assists, Brock should hopefully be in better shape this year and the upgrades around EP should hopefully result in some better finish on some of his amazing setups. I remember some of his line mates missing some great looks that he fed them, I expect guys like Miller and Ferland to be better at finishing those chances. - Nucker101
Miller almost always increases his line mates goal production with the exception of the Brayden Point line. No one more than an elite shooter like Stamkos. It may very well work out the same with EP as he doesnt have to be the only play maker on a line and actually have someone teeing him up 5 on 5.

I really like Hughes, and think he'll be exciting to watch, but I am tempering expectations on his offensive impact this year largely because a combination of:
1) The powerplay has been typically very stagnant, which won't utilize his strengths as a roving defenseman
2) His shot does not seem overly dangerous to me. Without the threat of a shot I think penalty killers will hone in on his passing options, neutralizing him a bit
If the coaches let him loose a bit or if his shot improves this summer, things could obviously change - WhiteLie
If he gets top PP unit for any lengthy amount of time, he should stack up the points. If Green only wants a vet like Edler or Mayers as the single D on unit #1, people should be tempered for sure.

Edler should be stuck on PP2, the guy just doesn’t have the creativity to be on a good first unit - Nucker101
Canucks might be deep enough to take Edler off the PP all together if they only run one D high.

Point also liked to own the puck & hard for anyone to help him. Complimentary players have to feed off of playmakers or feed them. Bo is a poor example of a poor mans Point. |

Now that we have Myers as a shooter it could happen. My money on it’s less time not none altogether. |

I predict more shots and 25+ goals, lower shooting percent. It depends largely on how they predicate the offence on the powerplay, as I mentioned I'm sure they will tweak their approach using Hughes and hopefully more movement on the powerplay. If EP is not still the primary shooter, he will get less goals and more assists. |

I think he will really improve a top line and powerplay. Wouldn't be shocked if Ferland took that top spot either though. Chemistry will play a huge part in how that shakes down. |

Last year EP had 144 shots at 20% for 28 goals with 10 on the PP
10 is quite conceivable again. PP can only get better with the more talent & skill added. Overall should be more goals.
5v5 Better wingers & Hughes & Myers will help scoring & depth. EP will get more focus no doubt. That should up his assists for sure but more skilled linemates will increase scoring chances in theory. That same theory says more 20 goal scorers happens. Better players will improve dynamics & further help EP get more scoring chances imo. With Boeser being a trigger man he will also get attention & leaves EP to dish to if he’s overplayed by the D. Adding JTM is a serious upgrade to make the line even better. Chemistry & gelling with skilled passing will be fun to watch. |
