Stecher is a terrible defense man, great at rushing up the ice and getting burnt at the opposition blue line. Is probably the best defense man on the Canucks at chasing the puck carrier in his own zone. Are you familiar with the Benny Hill theme song, well they should play it every time Stecher is on the ice. Oh and he was much improved last year, tops out at 6, but hey best upcoming young defense man..

Green has shown 2 years in a row he has not prepared for his oppositions game. Doesn’t know how to line match, as “head coach” never ever changes his special teams (unless an injury makes him). Is fcuking terrible at rewarding with ice time, plays crap players over deserving players. Like all coaches he has a dog house, but players never ever seem to be able to get out of it. His system is crap and predictable.

People love to bash Benning, green deserves just as much if not more criticism.

So you think both Hutton and Stecher are scrubs but then how was it possible they they played decently when Edler/Tanev we’re out and Green was forced to played them 23-25 minutes a night? Something has to give there.

I thought Stecher did an excellent job stepping up and making Hutton look good too.

They didn’t play decently, they barely managed. Green had other options but elected to play those two outside of their talent zone. He could have played them less minutes and spread them out to the other defense, but he has a Stecher hard on. One of my issues with him...but just one

Who?

Tanev and Edler were perpetually injured.
Hutton, Biega and Pouliot were the regulars, along with Gudbranson before traded.

Michael Del Zotto?

Yes, he could have spread out the minutes, sure they are all bad, but Biega, Gudbranson and Del Zotto could easily have absorbed a few more minutes each, but Green thought it best to play Stecher over his talent level. Bring up defense from the Comets, come on there were alternatives.

It’s always easier to blame the players, I get that, no one here thinks Green is crap besides me. It’s always Eriksson, Granlund, Virtanen, Benning, never the guy that is supposed to be the strategist, the guy with the game plan, the motivator, he gets a free pass...fcuking Benning anyway
- Makita

I don’t think Green is crap yet. I do think he didn’t have the roster or depth to do much better. Injuries didn’t help. No excuse now. It’s not a world beater roster but it’s definitely worthy of making noise.

I don’t care to judge Benning as harsh as some love to do. I have more patience letting time work out how it unravels for good or bad. Not harping on every move as if it’s the end if the world and so crucial.

On players shouldering blame some earned it but it wasn’t stopping our rebuild in any great way. Delayed a bit yes. Fixable yes. 2020 i’ve earmarked for the true time to assess the past 5-6 yrs of how its panned out.

I like how we look & who is coming soon.

IMO, Stetcher is the easy choice over MDZ, Biega, Gudbranson or Saunter.

It's too bad Juolevi was injured, as it would have been an opportune time for a call up.
c'est la vie.

I like this years D lineup much better.
Fantenberg, Juolevi, Brogan, Teves plus ol Biega to jump in when Tanev and Edler are injured.

I’ll agree, Stecher was the easy choice, although not the right choice, bring in Saunter to sit for 52 minutes a game. I think green had choices, had a bad selection of talent and chose the easy way, and didn’t coach SFA

Those depth options seem better. Plus when injuries occur, the starting line up of Myers, Benn and Hughes could handle more minutes spread out, not overloading Stecher again.

I'm far from a big Stecher or Green fan, but I really don't blame him at all for choosing to give those 2 young dmen big minutes when Edler/Tanev were out instead of spreading out the top 4 and playing MDZ/Biega/Gudbranson 20+ minutes as well.

I don't mind Stecher as a bottom pairing dman at all. I'm okay with moving on from Hutton.

It's definitely annoying that both of them seem to be offensive minded dmen, yet they fail to produce, and neither of them are guys you want out against good scoring lines. By default, that puts a hard ceiling on what they can bring to a team.

Coaching staffs can be very different in structure. Here we aren't sure if green selects the D or if its baumer.
Personally I'm not much of a Baumgartner fan, but I will say this, it's such a massive upgrade over lidster.

Good job summing those 2 up!

It makes zero sense to be a D if you can't play defense..how the (frank) does a d man make it to the Nhl not knowing how to defend?.

Stecher is 2.33m in a contract year.

Resign him at what offer or move on via trade or lose him for nada?

I’d trade him

It does,

I know we are all extremely hopeful that the changes Benning has made so far this offseason will finally produce positive results. I am not confident in Green and his assistants, except for Maholtra and Clark.

But like others have suggested, this is Green’s chance to prove he can coach with better talent, we will see.

RHD are Myers Tanev Fantenberg & Rafferty with Benn capable to play RHD. Stecher is expendable. If not for being RH idk if he would even still be in the NHL.

He shot 20% last season and almost never had to play in the offensive zone. He is a good player, but ranking him the top 20 is a joke.

He will be lucky to repeat his performance. His shooting percentage will regress, which basically means he’ll need to DOUBLE his skill and ability next season in order to recreate the same results.

Do I like him and think he’s going to get better skill wise several years in a row? Absolutely! Is he a top 20 center right now, and will he be anytime soon. No way!

- Dahlmanyotes

The real joke is that you read Tanner's blog on a regular basis.
