It’s not rocket science, just simple math. League average for shooting percentage is 10%. He shot at 20% last year so unless you think he is a better shooter than Ovechkin/Stamkos/Kessel in their primes then his percentage will drop to the normal range.

Another way of saying this is without puck luck, he would’ve scored 14 goals last year. So do I think he’ll improve on a 14 goal expectation, YES! Do I think he’ll exceed his ridiculously lucky 28 goal performance, heck no!

And even if he did, he plays all offensive shifts, and is supremely sheltered. The top centers in the league go against the other teams top lines and still drive possession and scoring. Pettersson hasn’t had to do that yet.

So tougher competition, combined with a return to a normal shooting percentage guarantees he will struggle to reproduce his results from last year.

Doesn’t mean he sucks...doesn’t mean every team wouldn’t love to have him, cause he’s great, high ceiling, cheap, etc. All it means is he is not a top 20 center and he’s got some SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT ahead of him if he wants to be.

Did you take into consideration he only played 71 games last season?

Baertschi/Stecher for Risto

Sabres need some space & can demote 2 players if a trade like this happened.

Edler Risto
Hughes Myers
Benn Tanev

Allows an easy choice to move Tanev.

Not to mention he'll get to play with Hughes for 82 games not 5.
- A_SteamingLombardi

This is true. I expect his assists to go up.

A healthy season by both would do wonders to team production.

I'd be surprised if Woo makes the NHL without any pro experience at all beforehand. I doubt he beats out OJ for a job in 2 seasons as well. OJ will get injury call ups this season and be a permanent roster player the following season if not earlier. Trade deadline perhaps...

Woo struggled and was scratched last week in the super series. There's a lot of developing needed with him still.

You realize he is coming off of knee surgery and is not at 100%.

I agree with the coyote, Pettersson's shooting % likely isn't going to remain at 20% and it's premature to call Petey a top 20 C at this point of his career.

My guess is a 70 pt season.

I’m thinking a 2021 or 2022 is a more likely arrival time

I was surprised Woo played in the tournament at all. May have pushed himself to impress to make the WJC team.

Heard the asking price for Risto is quite high. They are saying he'll probably be moved before camp.

I was into acquiring him before getting Meyers but they serve a very similar role. I wouldn't be surprised if Benn Stetcher end up being our most effective pairing next season.

No argument there. He is a undersized player who plays with a lot of heart and not much skill.

Stetcher, Biega, not much difference.
Little guys that try real hard but end up not doing much.

I can see that, hopefully up to 90 by year 3.

Don’t have to resign him with a raise
Don’t have to protect him for the e-draft
Packaging him unloads another forward
He’ll never be better than 3rd pairing
Get something for him before his next contract

Sabres seek a top 6F so offer up Sven & see if it flies. If not no probs. Risto’s value is not as high as they wish imo.

Sure, why not. Throw it out there see if it sticks.

Sven won't be easy to move.

I mean, if he wasn’t statistically one our best dman who just had a breakout year this would be a great point.

I just got a copy of Quinn: The Life of a Hockey Legend.

Gonna start it tonight; too hot to sleep anyway. Let me know if you've read it and what you think. Looking forward to it.

I will also agree with the random Yotes fan that EP will likely score less goals, but I expect more assists to make up for it. Unless he suddenly shoots more, which is something I'd love to see since he has such a lethal shot. Maybe an improved LW linemate and better puck moving defense will give him more shooting opportunities.

I know the initial reaction is to call that poster an idiot and/or troll, but he's right about a 20% shooting percentage being unsustainable. EP has to shoot more to make up for sh% regression .
