Thinking again on line combos...

Pearson or Sven for top 6?
I’ve given Boeser JTM & Ferland the other spots.

Sven, JTM, Ferland and Pearson are all left shots and (I believe) mostly play the left side, though JTM can/will play C as well. Doesn’t that create a situation where someone will need to play their off-side? Not impossible, just seems less optimal...I’d expect that might be dictated by Green’s juggling of injuries or chemistry. Similarly, Green will (for certain) juggle based on game flow.

Maybe...

1A: JTM/Ferland — EP — Boeser
1B: Ferland/JTM — Bo — [SB or JV]

Perhaps with LE (:yuck) or NG thrown in, if someone is not going well that game.

FWIW, I hope that Sven only plays if he is *really* healthy enough to play.

Green will have options. Pearson would be in the top 6 mix. Goldy and Leivo have chances as well.

Depth has all the guys you mentioned and above battling for top 9 spots.

Oddly...Leivo shoots right but is also listed as a LW. Still leaves someone playing on their off-wing, I think.

Motte, LE and JV are natural right wingers, while (I think this is right) Goldy is a left shot who mostly plays RW, though Green had him at times playing on the LW with Boeser and EP.

Wingers are more interchangeable LS/RS. Its a mix of some preferring playing off-wing. With the injuries last season Green needed a top 6 LW so tried Goldy out.

Maybe Green melds past with new chemistry in a Sven Bo Pearson line.

Maybe but do you see either Miller or Ferland on the 3rd line? I don’t.

Green said they can play up and down the line up. Perhaps he alters them with EP to see who is a better fit or adjust per opposition.

Green needs to go back to the AHL and take the best upcoming defense man with him.

Just general reference to line up. Green is known for mixing it up. Wouldn't be surprised to see different combos deployed. Varied from Ferland 1LW to Miller 3C on different shifts or games.

Why so hard on Green and Stecher? They seem to get a lot of league wide respect.

I really like Hughes, and think he'll be exciting to watch, but I am tempering expectations on his offensive impact this year largely because a combination of:

1) The powerplay has been typically very stagnant, which won't utilize his strengths as a roving defenseman
2) His shot does not seem overly dangerous to me. Without the threat of a shot I think penalty killers will hone in on his passing options, neutralizing him a bit

If the coaches let him loose a bit or if his shot improves this summer, things could obviously change

- WhiteLie

You have some valid points there. I guess it will then depend on utilization by the staff

Stecher is a terrible defense man, great at rushing up the ice and getting burnt at the opposition blue line. Is probably the best defense man on the Canucks at chasing the puck carrier in his own zone. Are you familiar with the Benny Hill theme song, well they should play it every time Stecher is on the ice. Oh and he was much improved last year, tops out at 6, but hey best upcoming young defense man..

Green has shown 2 years in a row he has not prepared for his oppositions game. Doesn’t know how to line match, as “head coach” never ever changes his special teams (unless an injury makes him). Is fcuking terrible at rewarding with ice time, plays crap players over deserving players. Like all coaches he has a dog house, but players never ever seem to be able to get out of it. His system is crap and predictable.

People love to bash Benning, green deserves just as much if not more criticism.

Bo make such an excellent screen/net front presence. Plus his ability to win faceoffs is best on the team.
- Retinalz

Maybe that's a good use for LE if he's in uniform .....make him stand in front of net and have our guys lay down some bombs

Green has no excuses left at his disposal.
Sink or swim time for him imo.

This years roster is much improved over last years. Something good or something bad will come of it either way. I’ll place it all on Green 1st. Baumer & Brown are even under more scrutiny. Benning if a casualty will have company.

I have no issues moving out Stecher.

Yeah I agree, it will be interesting to see if he can adjust, I have my doubts, but the better roster just might hide his ineptitude for another year or two.

But as head coach the responsibility is his.

Buck stops at him yes but i’m not totally sold he is the problem. A failed season or worse the axes will fall anyways.

The remade D & F’s added should be easily enough to get competitive.

It’s always easier to blame the players, I get that, no one here thinks Green is crap besides me. It’s always Eriksson, Granlund, Virtanen, Benning, never the guy that is supposed to be the strategist, the guy with the game plan, the motivator, he gets a free pass...fcuking Benning anyway
