They should NEVER be trading first round picks. Despite the conditions being favourable for the Canucks in a strong 2020 draft, and the Canucks not slated to become a playoff team next year, its still an absolute awful trade and Tampa just fleeced us.

With Miller, team does have a much better shot at the playoffs

P.S. this was after the trade was announced officially.

2020 or 2021 1st
it's 2020 first rounder they gave up if the Canucks make the playoffs, if they miss the playoffs then it's the 2021 1st round pick they give up no matter what
- Nucker101
I'm just sad that Van doesn't have a 3rd round pick.
Basically all the players I wanted in the third round have now been taken though
-manvanfan - manvanfan
You went from 3rd and 6th would be acceptable to a 1st and 3rd in a couple of hours.
And now you mock others saying that a proposal like that (3rd and 2nd-6th) is unrealistic.
Cognitive dissonance much? |

What exactly is strong about the 2020 draft?
Nobody has yet claimed it to be deeper.
There is no stud D like Dahlin or Byram.
Too much hype is clouding ppl’s judgement let alone where we might draft at. As usual some ppl rather jump to worrying 1st. |

Apparently it now gets you Miller from a cap strapped team. It was another dumb trade, still is. |

Don't worry nighty; the 2020 draft will deep and full of potential... if the Canucks keep their 1st round pick. |

Kevin Hayes
February 25, 2019
Brendan Lemieux (31st overall)
2019 1st round pick
2022 conditional 4th round pick
I guess Chevy is just as stupid to pay a higher price for an older player and a rental. Yikes.
If you are wonder, I do consider Hayes to be also a barely 2nd line centre. |

Maybe so but it’s time for making significant headway. There is plenty of potential already in the pipeline. If the cupboards weren’t so bare for so long this would not be as big of an issue. |

I don't care about your stance on the trade. You were a person I had next responded to after the trade was announced. I don't see myself complaining too much about the price paid. Except for the 3rd. |

I don't remember my stance changing since I still think he's barely a 2nd line player. He's a 2nd line player on this team right now. Certainly not a first line player. I don't want to see him play 1st line either but options are somewhat limited. |

I’m not jumping off a cliff over 1 trade that’s yet to be seen how it works out.
I’ve seen Miller play enough in NY & TB to say he can prove he’s worth it. |

Do we have a dominant dman in the system? How about a surefire dominant forward. |

No one can complain about benn, ferland, miller and myers as acquisitions. As players, there is literally nothing to complain about, as they improve the team. My only gripe was and always has been the price for miller (not the player, cause I like him). Not to re hash this, but I thought we had tampa in a position to take advantage of, trade wise, and I thought giving up a 1st was a premium price from a team that wasnt really in a position to do so. That's all. |

During JB’s time here no dominant D has been available when we drafted. I can live with Hughes easily. As for F EP hands down. |

It’s just the glee club hyping it up after the Miller trade to make JB look bad. Some of these same dudes make fun of people who plug in prospects into future lineups yet they have no problems with calling a bunch of 17 year olds future stars.
Hypocrisy and sadism. |

EP has had 1 really good season, let's tap the brakes a bit. Many highly skilled but undersized forwards don't do very well in the playoffs. Hughes has played 5 games, and yes he is dynamic. Dominant is a different word though. |

You have to factor in that hes a top 6 player on a reasonable contract and locked for 3 years. That drives up the price, his PP success, his possession numbers, his defensive ability (which is under the radar good). Do I wish we paid a little less, yes, but i do like the trade. It always stings giving up a 1st though. |
