To be fair, I still don't like the Myers deal neither. I must be a double hater.
Yes it's better than reported, but it's still too long and rich for my liking. I know that's what you pay/get for dipping into the free agency market, doesn't mean I have to like it.
We're still a borderline team IMO, even with all of these additions. - golfingsince

I don’t get Bowman at all...
Trades players & luvs to trade back for them.
Alex Nylander who cannot make it with the Sabres for Jokiharju. So far looks ok only cuz Joki got injured.
He cannot or won’t unload bad contracts.
Dach i like but wouldn’t pass on Byram if he planned to move Joki.
To date he rode the tails of the team Tallon built & done nothing much since. Those who like a good speaker oughta luv Stan over Jimbo to appease that quality that does nothing in the real world of a GM in the NHL.
Who is on the hot seat more Stan or Jim? |

I doubt any of the sadists can even confidently name 15 GM's they'd take over JB.

The guy who had Stranges 31st has Noel Gunler 25th. Both elite skillset future first liners as far as I’m concerned. Either (IMO, based on tape) could’ve conceivably been in the top 5 (easy top 10) mix in 2019... Anyway, the 2020 hype is justified - who even knows if/when we’ll pick - focus on the players. - DrChristianTroy
I am watching Gunler as well. The 2019 draft was a difficult read given the USNDP was stacked therefore difficult to read. The WJC’s this year will be a good time to get a better picture on prospects. I’m expecting a very good tourney from many 2020ers. |

all complaints, but zero solutions offered other than "do nothing" or fantasyland trades that aren't realistic. |

I’ll try GM’s that i don’t see as better than JB...
Holland - overrated & hands out bad contracts
Nill - getting stagnant
Chayka - proof nerds don’t do much
Dubas - take away a lottery win & nothing special
Treliving - swimming in quick sand finding a goalie
Dorion - unknown being hamstrung by Eugene
Bowman - past his due date
Murray - see above
Minny - GM’s graveyard
JR - a hanger onner
Maybe more but too lazy to try more lol |

Blake - inherited a mess but it worse with Kovy and Doughty contracts and trying to compete with a stale/slow core. Gillis-like approach.
Bergevin - Price contract was brutal, traded for an overrated Drouin, Weber contract is also rough as he ages. Embarrassing OS to Aho which did the Canes a favour.
Gorton - overrated, huge benefit of team location, and somehow has the team in cap hell despite the rebuild just starting up.
Fletcher - That Hayes contract is brutal, seems to be going down the same path as other GM's who have recently been fired, stuck in the middle and trying to compete with 2 stars that are on the decline or will be soon in Giroux/Voracek.
Already at 14 GM's worse than JB

I’ll try GM’s I’d take over Jim for $800 Alex...
Yzerman - despite his mediocre 1st round picks
Hextall - I like what he was building in Philly amd I also like his my way or the highway attitude
Poile - not afraid to make big moves
Sakic - was patient amidst massive criticism in holding out for Duchene trade but came out on top |

You asked for a list of GM's one would take over Benning. Those were the ones currently holding down NHL jobs who I think are better than Benning. I don't feel like diving into the lists of assistant GM's or GM's of teams in other leagues. I would pick you over Minivan or Vantel everyday of the week all day.
Thanks, I was trying to temper my loathing for Benning and this did not help. Looks like an extra trip to the woodpile now and I was there not that long ago. |

I find it hilarious that after 6 off-seasons on the job we're debating wether or not JB is in the top half or bottom half of NHL GM's. Don't criticize Benning, he's improved to almost average!

Take away every GM that drafted 1oa or inherited 1 & that list shrinks. Furthermore take away the few that inherited a cup winner it shrinks even more.
Overall the list is solid if regular seasons are the bar set but not good enough for us in VanCity. Pres cups & good to great teams here over the years don’t get enough credit as success. It’s a cup or nothing so that list isn’t anything special. |

Bullpoop! Instead of naturally gravitating towards that pick JB propped up a bottom 5 team, and traded away draft capital while doing so.
Let me guess, this is either FA or the Sedins fault. |

How about truly good GM’s then there is the rest for a more fair judgement. I don’t think JB gets anyones blessing as a GM guru but he has plenty of company. I’d say he’s gaining on other GM’s albeit sucking can help that lol. Drafting has given him the edge over many GM’s. |

No I’m not prepared to throw JB under the bus without sharing the load. He hasn’t taken the NHL by storm but has gotten better each year. His drafting has been top 5 imo. Draft capital is subjective & still tbd how it pans out. He hasn’t mortgaged the farm but trading picks in the early years is arguable yes. Still i don’t put as much currency into those 2nds as others do. None have bit our ass yet. The cupboard is looking good. |
