I like the job he has done so far. It isn't perfect, I didn't like the Muzzin trade, but he had a really tough situation this summer and is very close to coming away without too much damage. - Aetherial
Worst part was that we could've traded for Montour instead of Muzzin. Montour is younger and shoots right. Guess they wanted the playoff experience. |

Do we even know that for sure? Also, not crazy hot on Montour. He'd be fine in our top 4 along side someone like Muzzin, but I think he's a 4 more than a 3 if you know what I mean. |

Now maybe, but Muzzin is 30 and Montour is 25. He would've easily been our best right shot defense last year over hainsey and zaitsev. |

For sure, but Muzzin made our top 4 better than Montour would've on his own.
This isn't great:
Rielly Hainsey
Gardiner Montour
Dermott Zaitsev

Leafs should trade Ceci+ for Ristolainen (with 1 mil held). Easily makes our top 4 better and if he's pissed at buffalo, why wouldn't you want him playing a bunch of games against them? Plus, he's 6'4 and had 235 hits and 121 block shots last year. Adds some grit on the backend. - matt1337
I think it has to be a decent sweetener. If Kadri was still in TOronto, I don't think the Leafs would consider this type of move, but Buffalo's in a bit of a self imposed CAP situation. May need to broaden the deal to make it make sense for both sides - meaning the Leafs have to give something of value up ... to get something of potential value from Buffalo.
Ceci, Nick Petan, Mac Hollowell or TImashov (my guess is Buffalo pick Timashov) + 2nd Round Pick in 2021
Ristolainen(1.0M retained) + Andrew Hammond + Hunwick
but I doubt the Sabres would want to trade in the division - the optics would be poor from their side... conversely Ristolainen would pair nicely with Rielly and you'd have to think he'd be motivated.

Montour wasn’t traded last year.....
Prices change. I doubt he could of been had for that price last year because well...he wasn’t.
Montour is an okay 4D. I’ll take Muzzin and the money to lock up Barrie. |

Montour was traded Feb 25 2019 at the deadline. Muzzin was traded for a month earlier on Jan 28 2019. |

Right. I was thinking about someone else.
But I thought he was traded for a 2nd and a 3rd.
His actual return is even worse. |

Leafs should add Ristolainen, he’s big and had lots of hits last year, adds grit to the back end. Also leafs shouldn’t of traded for Muzzin the only guy on the Leafs back end that plays with grit, should have traded for Montour instead. |

Borje! I've been using your idea of pesto on lake trout filets for some time now and it rules. Since I have basil growing outside and a bunch of lakers in the freezer it works out perfectly. My go to now. Every time I eat it I think, say what you want about Borje's take on Nylander, the son of a female dog knows lake trout! |

I believe he'll be great too. From what I've heard/read more than seen. And I've seen him play 0 times. But I saw some NHL ranking of prospects and they had Sandin higher than him. Could it be close, regarding their potential?
https://www.sportingnews....3r9rli1wj33i1pfrie5hud5zh - systemtool
19. Rasmus Sandin, D, Toronto Maple Leafs
2018 draft: First round, 29th overall
Easily the most under-valued defenseman from the vaunted class of elite blueline prospects in the 2018 draft, Sandin was the AHL's top rookie defenseman in 2018-19, recording 28 points in only 44 games and adding 10 more in 13 postseason contests. Not only has he leapfrogged 2017 first-rounder Tim Liljegren on Toronto's depth chart, but his cheaper entry-level deal could make him an ideal option for the big club's top six at some point this season. He's an excellent passer, and his defensive-zone positioning and one-on-one play are already at a mature level.
Liljegren is still ahead of him. I do think and agree that Sandin will most likely be better, but he isn't yet.
Also, the last sentence is kinda really wrong. His defensive play still needs work.
42. Evan Bouchard, D, Edmonton Oilers
Nonsense. He's better than a lot of guys ranked ahead of him. |

Very much agreed.
I didn't like that we traded Grundstrom in the trade for Muzzin (still don't), but Muzzin was really good for the Leafs. Especially late in the year and playoffs. |

And Muzzin is the much better player....
Montour has never proved to be able to play solid mins in the top 4. He’s young so that can change but that’s not where the Leafs are at right now.
They don’t need a maybe. |

Muzzin was excellent.
He had a 5-6 game period where he struggled but apparently he had bad ribs at that time.
He carried Z on his back. |
