Of course. But Matthews. If he signed for 8 all of this becomes much easier. Now they inflated the perceived value over shorter term and all these big FAs see that.

He lead his team for 2 years straight in scoring within 3 4 years of being drafted.

matthews has been top 10 in the nhl in Goals/game in years after drafted +1, +2 and +3. Also lead the league in one year in even strength goals. also won the calder.

marner was top 10 in the league in assists/game in year after drafted +4. also outscored mcdavid in the ohl their draft year.

it's not that close. marner shouldn't get paid more than echl, the guy he was correctly drafted behind.

Dreger had been the Marner hype man up to that point "mathews money" "respect" ....clearly just relaying Ferris' position. Which is totally fine. But when the hype man comes out and retracts/clarifies the demand is less than speculated that's a really good sign that it's all bs.

Remember we were told Willie wanted 8.5. Marner's side knows all the stats and comps that we're tossing around. This is negotiation. I'd start with 11 in the hopes of getting 10 too.

taking my biases out of it... Nylander looks better than the other 2

Not at all considered a savior...hes basicallly just shaping up the 3rd pairing. I think we both know we are all set in franchise defensemen...thanks.

Nylander's neutral zone play is overlooked. Often turns it over and back the other way.

Maybe a bit ....but AM's contract comes in slightly more than Stamkos' 5 yr post-ELC contract and slightly less than Malkins 5 yr post-ELC. It was a little high but there was precedent.

So, we are just ignoring that Matthews missed 20 games due to injury and finished with 63 points.
Whereas, Marner finished with 69 points but played in all 82 games?
