matthews has been top 10 in the nhl in Goals/game for in years after drafted +1, +2 and +3. Also lead the league in one year in even strength goals. also won the calder.

marner was top 10 in the league in assists/game in year after drafted +4. also outscored mcdavid in the ohl their draft year.

it's not that close. marner shouldn't get paid more than echl, the guy he was correctly drafted behind.

And to be fair to MM (and Ferris) I think his side knows those numbers are fair. There's no pressure to sign today so why not wait to see if KD will throw a couple more bucks on the pile if the pressure mounts. If not ...oh well, those offers aren't going anywhere.

We are quite lucky that hes not injury prone. To have a degenerative condition so early in his career...like say...a shoulder....would be a hard thing to cope with..missing 20 games a year makes it hard to be a franchise player.

Im also glad he was committed to his team. Some teams have to deal with guys sitting out, holding out until they get over paid. Jack had no problem signing a long term, team friendly deal.
