those regular season achievements are what we are most envious of - Codes1087
But if they had better depth they would have went farther...
If they paid a Jay Beagle that would equal success.
You can't even make the playoffs and you've tied up your cap to so many mediocre players.
Leafs can trade anyone now they want for cap space, Canucks can't. |

negative cap space an Marner unsigned...keep yapping bud...making yourself look great - LordHumungous
You apparently don't understand how the cap works. They have 10.55 on LTIR. LOL. The Clarkson trade was brilliant cap manouvering.
Let me guess, anyday now Mitch Marner will sign an offersheet. OH my! Leafs are screwed! |

lol ya just brilliant cap strategy. Free up LTIR cash so you can have 3 players making 35 mil lol. Genius. But yet keep your 12-13 'cheap' players under 1mil per. Brilliant 'depth' LOL
But hey...those first round exits are sure worth the cost savings hey?

It's better to have 7 players making 35 million instead of 3, right? Who needs young franchise pieces when you can have worse along with JT Miller, Jay Beagle and Tyler Myers.
ROTFL
You are stuck with Myers for years. Ouch. It's odd to be making salary on a 4th liner to mean anything. That's the issue with it: You can get really good 4th liner on the scrap-heap every year. |

insulating your core with fringe NHL players on 700k 1 year contracts will bode well for your teams future success. |

You don;'t get it, 700K does not mean they are worse than a 3 million 4th liner. LOL. Ridiculous argument.
You honestly think Spezza is worse than any 4th liner making more because he makes 700K? |

STL just won the cup with a payroll exactly the opposite of what you claim. maybe 6 players making under 1 mil per and many don't even see ice time. You just aren't getting it man. This crop of FA's will compliment our core as we are no longer building around the Sedins, Kesler or Burrows lol. Myers Ferland Miller and Benn are filling needs. Other than Barrie (who will be gone soon...ouch) you have done nothing to improve your club in the off season as you claim lol...good luck though. |

is it? You are plucking fringe NHL players on cheap 1 year deals (which in theory, is completely fine), but you are needing to do it because your GM has handed out heavy cap contracts and is needing more space. The 700k contracts are in place to literally ice a full roster.
Trevore Moore
Nic Petan
Kenny Agostino
Garrett Wilson
Jason Spezza
Pontus Aberg
Fred Gauthier
Ben Harpur
Jordan Schmaltz
Ben Hutchingson
these aren't ELC's. These are players 24 and up and fringe NHL players at best (excluding Trevor Moore who I think is a good player). Again, I understand your theory and argument. Paying your best players as your best players is fine, but its hilarious to think that you trying to dunk on our GM by coming in here and saying hes a way worse GM than Dubas is comical considering what he has had to pay just to free up a little bit of space and hasn't yet been able to get Marner signed. |

You're equating salary to quality with 4th liners players which is ridiculous. The Blues won a cup because of a rookie goalie. Without him they would not have made the playoffs.
And no way you'd feel this way if Leafs were filling-up their cap with all that crap and before they signed their young talent.
A core of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Jonsson, Kapanen, Hyman, Kerfoot, Muzzin, Barrie, Rielly, Andersen lacks depth. LOL Okay buddy...
And FYI, even after Marner is signed Leafs will have minimum 16 million next summer to keep Barrie if they wanted. |

a leaf fan coming in here, or a Canucks fan going into the leaf forum, and trying to lecture about any sort of regular season or playoff success is just insane. The difference here is we aren't going there with microphone patting our chests and rubbing our backs for participation medals. |

So the key to success is spending millions on your 4th line. LOL
Leafs had the most 20 goal scorers of any NHL team last season, so your attempted point at lacking "Depth" is a disaster - RogerRoeper
Yup. And over pay for a 2nd line winger from a cap crunched team and over pay for a bottom pairing d man in the UFA market. |

Look around the NHL, so many contenders have players like that on their roster.
Spezza's #'s given his role were really strong last season. I'm confused why 4th line guys should make more than 700K.
A big problem with the Leafs last season was having someone like Marleau getting way more usage than a vastly superior player ion Jonsson. That's been fixed. |

Self proclaimed best team in the league cant get out of the first round. Never been out of the 3rd round ever.
Let's talk about something less phony than the Leafs.

6 DMen? LOL where are you getting that? Lilljegren and Sandin are signed.
Maybe after Nylander has a career year they'll trade him for a D?
Nylander shot 5% last season. That will never, ever happen agian. Put him in your pools, kids.
See, Leafs biggest contracts are guys everyone wants, unlike Canucks.
