Apples to oranges comparison - re: Skinner vs Pastranak/Marchand - when it comes to salary.
1) There contracts were signed a couple of years ago. The market for high end talent has inflated quite a bit since then. Eg: Draisatl's $8.5 million was seen as outrageous when he signed it. Now he is considered a bargain.
2) Buffalo is going to have to pay more compared to a perennial Bruin playoff team that is always contending. Re: the Sabres have no winning culture.
3) Boston is a nicer city to live in compared to Buffalo. That counts for something.
Yes, the Sabres probably over paid by $600K annually but i am OK with this. We finally have an actual goal scorer that can put away Jack's passes. Plus Skinner is supposedly a great guy to boot.
Skinner at $9 million is not a hill for you to die on. Much bigger issues for the Sabres to resolve vs Skinner's contract. Start with Okposo @ $6 million and a bunch of over paid drubs that will be coming off the books at the end of this season. - SabreWest
Even if they overpaid by a mil.
Letting him walk over that is a hilariously bad alternative |

skinner .289 even strength goals per game in his career on sh!t teams
tarasenko .313 even strength goals per game in his career on playoff teams
my guess is skinner would have better goal production had he played his 9 seasons as a blue then tarasenko would if he played on the canes and sabres - homiedclown
Tarasenko is a good player. I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest with flaccoville over who is better, but it's silly to say:
"Must be this good as a winger to warrant getting paid"
Bunch of good players

sabre fans should be happy they kept the 40 goal scorer
you can make a case he is over paid by 1 mil per year, but that is the price the sabres pay to keep a player of his caliber vs the leafs, bolts, bruins, etc, etc, etc |

And....a guy who would have arguably been close to a 50 goal scorer without that ankle injury thing with 22 games left. Say what you want, but he never looked the same to me after that, looked like he lost a step and that's his whole game. |

oh this is so GD right.... Sabres will have to overpay UFA's to keep them in Buffalo until we turn the corner and are consistently good again.
Skinner was getting paid where ever he went, i am for damn sure glad he is here... |

If we signed Laine to a 4-year deal after this trade and lost him after that deal, I still would do it 10/10 times.
4-years at 40 million shouldn't hand-cuff us too much and I don't see how he turns that down, honestly. He would still be an RFA at the end of the deal, I think? And then he's a valuable trade asset, flip him at the deadline in the last year of his deal or trade his rights for a younger up-and-comer. You have to manage all your assets the right way, even if it means trading results from NOW for a potential future contributor. - BeadyEyedDouche
Does anyone remember the second half of Laine's the season? 3 goals, 1 assist and -20.....He was easily the most irrelevant player 5v5 in the league. Your writer is a little off point if he thinks Connor and Laine will combine for north of 17.5M. Chevy is a good GM. My prediction: Connor signs 6 years at 6.35M AAV, Laine goes to arbitration and is awarded 2 years 6.85M AAV. People need to remember that Laine can't pass or create scoring chances. He is a PP specialist that requires playmakers like Wheeler and Scheifs. |

So Tarasenko did help them win a cup, despite being a winger who has been paid handsomely for the past 4 years?
But Skinner isn't on the same level, despite scoring 7 more goals than Tarasenko last year. - jcragcrumple
The guy who has scored 33+ goals in a row 6 straight years and averages 69 points a season is better then the player who has cracked 60 points twice in his career twice and has 4 30+ goal seasons in 9 years. Mind blowing stuff I know. |

And yet, the year they won the cup, he had 33 goals and 68 points.
7 fewer goals and 5 more points than Skinner.
So as the cap rose, his percentage of the cap decreased, and despite being a mere pleb winger making $7.5 against the cap, they managed to somehow overcome that monstrous situation and win a cup |

Went to Boston last year for a 5 day vacation. I thought Boston was Awesome. Then again I was only there for 5 days.
I will say one thing, they love their Dunkin way more then we love our Tim's. There was a franking Dunkins on damn near EVERY street some times multiple locations on the same street within a few hundred steps of each other. |

Laine isn’t even eligible for arbitration.
You are definitely off point. |
