What did Drury do in New York exactly ? He sure didn’t live up to that deal. Briere on the other hand stung. He was one of the FA that panned out. Both were bought out by their respective teams though if I’m not mistaken.

Maybe in the new CBA we’ll get thrown a get out of jail free card and be able to get out of the Okposo contract and the last couple of years of the Skinner deal when that time comes.

You're deflecting but that's what I would expect

Yes both were bought out (Briere's last 2 years, and Drury because of injuries killing his career)

But go back to 2007 and then tell me you were okay with ownership letting them walk over a million dollars...

Also Skinner is younger now than both Briere and Drury when they left in 2007

And he’s undoubtedly better than Chris Drury was.

Drury was solid but always over rated by this fan base

Correct

Drury was a second line center on the most exciting team in hockey

He was good but he wasn't elite at anything

If last years rendition of the Sabres were a cup contender I’d be upset with them letting Skinner go too. The Sabres were coming off magical seasons when Danny and Drury walked. Also I’m tired of the Skinner comparisons to Briere. When Skinner gets 90 points in a season let me know.

I know this fan base is tired of losing, and tired of being told to be patient but in reality Murray’s years here did nothing for the state of the franchise long term. This season should be the start of relevancy for this franchise. It will take us a few years to get to a point where we can see ourselves as true Cup contenders. Playoffs aren’t out of reach however.

Quotes not working but jcrag...

I would trade Risto for Laine 1f1 10/10 times and not think twice.

You have to outscore the other team to win in the modern NHL.

Look at the last few winners... All of them have elite scoring talent at the top. Of the last 11 Stanley Cup winners, 3 teams have won a combined 8 times and they all had ELITE scoring abilities and hot goaltending. Chicago, Pittsburgh and LA. And of the other 3 teams left, you could argue only Boston and St. Louis did it on solid, overall team play but even then, Hot goaltending played a huge factor.

Washington is the other team and we don't need to say how elite of a scorer they have.

Would Winnipeg do a 1f1? I think we might have to add a Sheary and a pick to this deal, but I say Risto, Sheary and a 2nd or 3rd gets it done and I have no issues adding a ONE DIMENSIONAL GOAL SCORER to this team.

Letting a 40 goal scorer walk doesn't help make that happen

No it does not, but having a winger making $9M a year and hampering our roster flexibility during Eichel and Dahlin’s prime years might be the difference between getting over the hump and not consistently being a first or second round playoff knockout.

Can we put this down until 2024 when it will actually have any relevance and/or data that might help to resolve it?

Botterill is the cap guru

He is one of the main reasons the Pens were able to stay together for so long

Let's see what he can do before we say Skinner's deal is going to squash this teams chance of being a contender...

No it’s the basic premise of spending crazy money on July 1st. Replace Shattenkirk with 80% of the players signed on this day over the course of time and it still applies. If Skinner is one of the 20% of the July 1st signings that actually pays off we’ll see when the time comes.
- Swedish_Jesus

in the six years prior to this new contract skinner averaged 30 goals per year and he did so with a rather hefty $5.725M cap-hit...

point being, he signed an 8yr./$34.350 million deal coming off of his entry level contract and never blinked an eye

I think the emphasis of drafting d-men like it’s going out of style is for that very purpose as well. Money will be spent on the offence no doubt.

I really, really hope that Hayes lives up to that contract for you guys... Not being facetious.

I honestly thought you guys should have done a minor re-build... I thought Simminds was the start of it...

I thought that Philly's window closed last year with the current core. They should have unloaded Giroux and Vorachek if at all possible, IMO. Much like the Sabres core after Briere and Drury left, what has the current group really done for your organization?

I have no fond memories of the Sabres under Ryan Miller and that's because he was a whiney cry-ass who blamed everyone but himself for letting in softies and losing big games. That's a lie. Him getting bull-dozed by Lucic and his team not standing up for him was the defining moment of that era. I wouldn't have rushed to his defense either if he was always pointing the finger at me.

Back in the early Jim Kelley days, he was criticizing his offensive line, saying they weren't doing their jobs, publicly. The very next game, first possesion, they let the DL line go unevaded to the QB and demolish him. Then they helped him up and said "Tell us we aren't doing our job again". After that, the team really started to gel and all the pieces fell into place for the greatest non-dynasty in sports history.

Miller deserved it for years of throwing his teammates under the bus.

- BeadyEyedDouche

You and me both, as far as Hayes. It was a million more than I hoped they’d spend on him, but whatever. Honestly I wanted them to go after Kapanen instead. With the money the Leafs have to pump out to everyone else, I think they’d let him go if the offer was solid.

They’re kinda rebuilding on the run, I suppose. I mean, Giroux is 31 and Voracek turned 30 this past week.

The core of this team’s future is Hart, Provorov, Frost, Farabee, Sanheim, Ghost, Myers, Konecny, and Patrick. Guys like G, Voracek, JvR, and Hayes are supposed to help along those guys to become contenders even though they appear to be the attraction today. Philly has a really nice pipeline of players (for once. Thanks Hextall!) coming through.

I think eventually Voracek gets moved for cap space and picks/prospects. Hayes will move to wing when that happens, and Frost (maybe Patrick if he earns it) becomes the 2nd C.

but anyway...

If you can get Laine, do it. You can run two 1st lines almost at that point. If you plan on beating the Leafs and Lightning while your kids are young and Skinner is still producing, you better have a hell of core, because that division is no joke.

I’d rather see the Sabres giving those two a hard time rather than Boston.

Seriously though, after I announced the prudent financial decision to buy a 50th jersey from dhgate com, some one said that they got a sabres jersey and an Allen for $40. So I went and ordered an Allen and had the choice between NFL and NFL 100.

What is the difference? I plan on wearing it to the game vs the redskins (racist) and my skinner jersey the day before at the game vs the islanders. Got club seats for that.

I also plan on buying a pair of bills Zubaz pants.

- Da_Cashman

That was me. Sorry, I have a Tyrol jersey, so it needed updating. I have an eichel 15, so just added a Dahlin to the collection. The 100 is for this year alone, if I’m not mistaken, so I just got the regular one.
