No it does not, but having a winger making $9M a year and hampering our roster flexibility during Eichel and Dahlin’s prime years might be the difference between getting over the hump and not consistently being a first or second round playoff knockout. - Swedish_Jesus
We have $35,408,333 in projected cap space next summer.

Yeah, but we only have like 8 or 10 guys signed, don't we? |

I would do that as well as long as the contract isn't automatically 8/$80
Too much risk imo. I'd want to see a bridge personally
If Laine was willing to sign a bridge deal,
wouldn’t that have been done by now?? |

Eichel
Skinner
Okposo
Johansson
Ristolainen
Miller
McCabe
Dahlin
Hutton
Cozens
Ruotsalainen
Asplund
Jokiharju
13 players under contract that should be up next year, and:
Pilut
Olofsson
Thompson
Montour
Mittelstadt
Reinhart
Ullmark
and 7 RFAs we control and can easily fit under the cap. People need to stop acting like the sky is falling with the cap, it comes across naive and ill informed.

Reinhart is going to get a raise. Mitts will get a raise. Montour will get a raise. I’m assuming they’ll try to get Dahlin signed a year out but nonetheless that cap hit has to be kept in mind for 2021. If Hutton/Ullmark poop the bed again we’ll have to drop more dollars there. We’ll also need to spend on replacements for the middle 6 forwards and possibly more on defense to make up for losing 2/3 of the current roster.
Apart from Eichel, Skinner, Johansson we have nothing signed past this year up front worthwhile.
Miller, Risto (while he is still here), McCabe, Dahlin will be the ones on the backend so most likely more to be spent back there as well apart from Montour. |

You and me both, as far as Hayes. It was a million more than I hoped they’d spend on him, but whatever. Honestly I wanted them to go after Kapanen instead. With the money the Leafs have to pump out to everyone else, I think they’d let him go if the offer was solid.
They’re kinda rebuilding on the run, I suppose. I mean, Giroux is 31 and Voracek turned 30 this past week.
The core of this team’s future is Hart, Provorov, Frost, Farabee, Sanheim, Ghost, Myers, Konecny, and Patrick. Guys like G, Voracek, JvR, and Hayes are supposed to help along those guys to become contenders even though they appear to be the attraction today. Philly has a really nice pipeline of players (for once. Thanks Hextall!) coming through.
I think eventually Voracek gets moved for cap space and picks/prospects. Hayes will move to wing when that happens, and Frost (maybe Patrick if he earns it) becomes the 2nd C.
but anyway...
If you can get Laine, do it. You can run two 1st lines almost at that point. If you plan on beating the Leafs and Lightning while your kids are young and Skinner is still producing, you better have a hell of core, because that division is no joke.
I’d rather see the Sabres giving those two a hard time rather than Boston. - Hesh_
Really? I thought he was like 36.

You are completely out of touch with the current NHL. You do NOT need to be elite defensively.
Dude, yes, we scored more goals than the Islanders last year. Wow, astute observation. My god dude, are you being this dense on purpose? Seriously, you have been agitating more than Fitz lately, and you cannot stop banging this drum.
You are completely wrong. Completely.
I said, you have to OUTSCORE the other team, not SCORE THE MOST GOALS in the league. The Islanders OUTSCORED all the other teams they played. The Sabres DID NOT OUTSCORE the other teams they played. We were horrible on defense, had below-average goaltending, and could not score goals below the top line.
The Islanders had scoring from top to bottom, played solid team defense, got ludicrous goaltending and rolled their way into the playoffs. We didn't get any of that, even during our 10-game win streak. - BeadyEyedDouche

An Okposo-type winger, yes. A Skinner type winger, I will take.
Let the SHIITE play out before everyone gets mad, FFS! |

You’re comfortable just giving the RFA’s their applicable raises and going into 2020-2021 with that roster ? Mitts is capable of being a high end 2C but until it happens I’m going to stay on level ground. Unless Cozens has a Calder like rookie year that forward group still lacks the firepower to compete with the big boys. Hence spending more money. |

We should probably trade Cozens before we have to pay him in 2023. Gotta stay flexible |

Yes, outside of Reinhart, no one is set to make serious money in that group.
But hey, the sky is falling. |

Dahlin will get $8M minimum . Reinhart will get $7-8M. Let’s say Montour gets $5M, Mitts gets bridged around $2.5M. If our projected cap is $35M then we are left with $12.5M. Before figuring in Thompson, Ullmark, Erod, Girgensons/Larsson (if they are kept). If Olofsson pots 20 this year he’ll be looking at a short bridge of $2.5-3M as well. It’s a good thing Dahlin wouldn’t be up till 2020 giving us 8M of breathing room for next years cap but don’t pretend like we are sitting pretty here. When it’s all said and done we’ll probably have $10-15M to play around with for next year. |

Dahlin had the best season by an 18 year old d-man in over 30 years. He also had more points and scored better analytically then Miro.
This is not a slight against Heiskanen by any means, he is going to be a guy we talk about for years to come but he’s the “Matthews/Eichel” to Dahlin’s “McDavid” |

outside of Okposo i dont think we have anyone on a cap strapping type of contract.. although i am sure someone will throw out Skinner.. i really don't see why anyone is discussing the cap like we are screwed.. |
