The second we drafted him, his stock went from top line forward to Brandon Dubinsky at best, and no one on this planet is going to want to pay 925K for that. That's way, WAY too much wasted cap space. |

Dahlin will get $8M minimum . Reinhart will get $7-8M. Let’s say Montour gets $5M, Mitts gets bridged around $2.5M. If our projected cap is $35M then we are left with $12.5M. Before figuring in Thompson, Ullmark, Erod, Girgensons/Larsson (if they are kept). If Olofsson pots 20 this year he’ll be looking at a short bridge of $2.5-3M as well. It’s a good thing Dahlin wouldn’t be up till 2020 giving us 8M of breathing room for next years cap but don’t pretend like we are sitting pretty here. When it’s all said and done we’ll probably have $10-15M to play around with for next year. - Swedish_Jesus
$10-15 Million to play around with is as good as any sort of contender can hope for in this league (barring a new CBA). |

When looking at capfriendly, I am not sure why you are so worried. Didn't Botts just get solid D men (with lower cap hits) for draft picks this year?
What about Risto being traded, that frees up $5.4. How about Cousins playing in Buffalo next year, with Asplund, Jokiharju and maybe 1 or 2 more? There has been rumors for years that Botts does not love Reinhart either, so he could (I say could here) trade him too next year. I don't think you should be mad here at all. Also, doesnt the cap go up a couple mil at least each year?
I know what will fix this, let's be Ottawa who just wants to exist in the league, have tons of cap room, don't use it, but they have it! How many teams have more room next off season (after accounting for most of their signings like above)? I bet not many.
Last thing (for now), if (which I think this happens) a lockout happens, the last time, didnt they allow you (1) buyout that did not hit your cap? Done! See you Okposo! Problem solved! |

I do think trading Risto is the best move for the team, but none of those players do I really want. So get more odds on better options for us. lol
Ehlers - takes shifts off, A Nylander 2.0
Gostisbehere - Isnt this just Risto 2.0?
W Nylander - I think he has talent, but I don't think he is worth the contract (more reason we WOULD get him? lol) and I don't want to trade with Toronto
Malkin - Too old. I love Malkin, but he has maybe a couple solid years let at most.
I would rather trade for a younger RFA player (maybe taking a chance on someone) with a veteran player too (offset the $$ cap hit), then take on any of these. I think I might almost want draft picks over any of the above players (and that's bad). |

So we are trading Risto for futures ? Also way to go from one extreme to the other btw. I never said to have a team with max cap room, you have to spend to the ceiling to remain competitive. Im concerned with how the dollars are spent. We need to be strong down the middle, on the blue line, and in goal.
It is a coincidence that the Blackhawks haven’t done anything relevant since giving Kane $10.5M ? Kane is the best winger in the NHL yet having the best season of his career didn’t get the Hawks to the playoffs. Heck even Debrincant scored 40. If you don’t have a strong d-corps and depth down the middle it won’t matter. Goalies are more important then wingers. |

Are we really worried about our capologist GM being able to figure out how to build a roster and how to not carry several albatross contracts years into the future? Is that where we are on August 19th? |

I don’t want him gone, but the point is, there are ways to make room if needed. If Reinhart wants $10m per, then you move him. I think $7-8 would be a good scenario for both. |

Trading Risto for futures, maybe since you think we have a cap problem, it is an option, right? I guess getting worked up over the cap NEXT year is too much to talk about since the GM could literally do anything to help solve it. He could trade Eichel if he thought it was the right move for the team. Now I don’t think it is, but to get worked up here seems a little too far into the future. |

He'll get his premier young winger money. 7-8 is what it is. He will never get 10, unless he scores 90+ this season.
He won't be traded, unless the entire Buffalo fanbase is 100% certain that we absolutely fleeced Ken Holland or probably Peter Chiarelli.
Removing him for anything less than absolute equal value at the same position is a detriment to this organization.
Reinhart removed from this topic, yes, there are a billion ways to create cap space. The Sabres get a pretty clean slate after this season. I just so happened to make a basic armchair GM roster, making some fairly obvious callups and salary estimates for next season. There were zero trades made, which is highly unlikely at best.

This roster is left with 12M to do whatever you need to do for FAs or trades.
Being even remotely concerned about the cap is silly. |

I think you're a little low on Reinhart and Montour but even so you'd still have at least $9 million in cap space and that is before making a Risto trade.
If by some sort of way they can get Okposo's deal off the books they would be sitting really pretty!
The cap shouldn't be an issue but that doesn't mean Botts and company should be spending like crazy. |

Yes.
Their d has 387 years of combined experience and make $60 million against the cap for the next 4 decades

Eh. Didn't care that much. Figured overall, maybe low on some, high on others. Point was, do we have space for new guys and AHL guys and re-signing our own?
Unequivocally. Botts has proven several times over that he's not drunk at the wheel. If anything the guy drives like grandpa. |

I agree. I was just pointing out a few things that could open more space if really needed. But my main point was with drafting all these guys, you hope they can step up and fill a role for a lower cap hit. |

Was it a mistake to sign Tarasenko four years ago for $7.5m? With cap inflation, that's $9m now
