I love how people pencil dahlin in for 8 mil per already
that is the last thing the sabres need, dahlin able to walk in 10 years
give him a 3 year 18 mil bridge deal next summer
then lock him up at 8 years 10 mil per
keep the kid a sabres for life - homiedclown
I bet we see a shorter term max contract in the next CBA
I would sign him to 8 years as soon as possible before the lockout
Not to mention after your 3 year bridge deal he is going to cost about $12 million per year at least |

I think the fans should be the ones determining contracts. The player and GM just need to shrug it off and say "you're the boss, guys" |

Ffs, do you really expect Botterill to tell the media how he REALLY feels? These players have to come in w a good attitude, ready to buy in. |

In my opinion (and unlike a lot of people I don't pretend to have inside information), Botts was too greedy with Risto. There was absolutely a lot of buzz about a trade...but that was before all the money was gone. Botts could have dumped him for some picks or a good forward prospect, but he held out for a top end roster player, and Risto just doesn't have top 6 forward value in a trade. Now he has a player whining to anyone who will listen about how much he hates losing here, and you can't trade 5.5 million dollars of salary in August. Everyone is already up against the cap or in a holding pattern.
But you know, the fact that this blog proposes a Laine for Risto trade shows how overvalued this guy is in Buffalo. Any other NHL city, that idea would be laughed out of town. If Botts was looking for anything close to that, no wonder he is still here.

Nope, you don't get to use any one of these 3
Benn
Tarasenko
Marchand
Pastranak - jcragcrumple

No, I mean the "showing up" part.
Sobotka is not good
Sobotka has a bad attitude
The sabres save over $1m against the cap by telling him to stay home
Seems like a no-brainer. He can hang out out in the Czech Republic, we become cap compliant. What's the down side? |

No I argued the significance of defense, goaltending, and centre ice man. Also how it was easier for the Blackhawks to surround Kane and Toews when they were making team friendly contracts. The Blackhawks aren’t losing becuase of Kane, they are losing because Seabrook, Keith are essentially playing at replacement level of performance, and before they traded for Strome (whom the jury is still out on) they didn’t have much at the Centre Ice position behind Toews. Coupled with the fact that Crawford can’t stay healthy. The Blackhawks had two 40 goal scorers on the wing but still struggled.
Carolina, Isles, Stars, Blues, Bruins, all had strong defense corps, got solid goaltending, and had good depth down the middle. Ultimately some of the aforementioned didn’t score enough in the playoffs but adding a $9M dollar winger means you have to subtract from somewhere else on the roster. - Swedish_Jesus

Well, that wasn't MY point.
Sure, he can go to the Yukon for all I care, but if he's in camp, then they need him and everyone else on the same page and ready to buy into what Ralph is selling. That was my point. |

Marchand and Pasternak are a tier above Skinner and both making $2M less. Benn was already called out by management and I’m sure if they could do that over they would, they are going to regret the last half of that contract.
Tarasenko might not be the analytics darling Skinner is but the results say he’s averaged more goals and points throughout his career as well. |

So Tarasenko did help them win a cup, despite being a winger who has been paid handsomely for the past 4 years?
But Skinner isn't on the same level, despite scoring 7 more goals than Tarasenko last year. |

skinner .289 even strength goals per game in his career on sh!t teams
tarasenko .313 even strength goals per game in his career on playoff teams
my guess is skinner would have better goal production had he played his 9 seasons as a blue then tarasenko would if he played on the canes and sabres

Apples to oranges comparison - re: Skinner vs Pastranak/Marchand - when it comes to salary.
1) There contracts were signed a couple of years ago. The market for high end talent has inflated quite a bit since then. Eg: Draisatl's $8.5 million was seen as outrageous when he signed it. Now he is considered a bargain.
2) Buffalo is going to have to pay more compared to a perennial Bruin playoff team that is always contending. Re: the Sabres have no winning culture.
3) Boston is a nicer city to live in compared to Buffalo. That counts for something.
Yes, the Sabres probably over paid by $600K annually but i am OK with this. We finally have an actual goal scorer that can put away Jack's passes. Plus Skinner is supposedly a great guy to boot.
Skinner at $9 million is not a hill for you to die on. Much bigger issues for the Sabres to resolve vs Skinner's contract. Start with Okposo @ $6 million and a bunch of over paid drubs that will be coming off the books at the end of this season.
