As great as Lidstrom was, Bobby Orr is in his own league. It really should be named the Bobby Orr Trophy. - gergeswillems
In 1970, Orr won the Art Ross (1st of 2!), the Hart, the Norris and the Conn Smythe.
That'll never happen again. |

Lidstrom played at a Norris level until he was in his early 40s. He was a physical specimen. Orr was forced to retire in his late 20s because of his bad knees. I always wondered what Orr would've done had he been able to play another 10 years. It's a shame. Orr might be the greatest hockey player ever. |

Shouldn't mean anything to anyone.
If you're going to compare players today to players of the past, the average AHLer would probably blow the doors off the NHL in the 1920s. But it's an unfair comparison because of the advantages every modern generation is going to have over the previous ones.
The only reasonable way to compare players is to look at the era they played in and how they compared to their peers. And what Orr did to the NHL in 1970 will never be repeated. |

Bad knees from players trying to kill him because he was unstoppable. Knee surgery in the 1970s compared to knee surgery in 2019 is completely different. If Orr had the benefit of modern surgery, he'd have played another 10 years and just continue to wreck the NHL. |

Orr used to wear his skates very loose as well. I don't know if that contributed to his bad knees. Whereas Paul Coffey used to jam his feet into skates which were 3 sizes too small. I always wondered how he did that. 😂 He was such a great skater. Even near the end of his career when Detroit had him. |

I don't always agree with you, but I usually get where you're coming from or why you're taking your position - but this I agree with 100%.
Orr changed the position. He changed the game. He changed the way kids growing up chose to orchestrate their game on D. |

jesus, are people actually trying to say that Lidstrom was better than Orr?
Lidstrom was great, but Orr is in a class all by himself.........it's like trying to argue that Crosby is better than Gretzky.........it's a ridiculous argument |

I agree. Orr was the only player to ever win the Art Ross Trophy (did it twice) since the award has been given out (1947-48) And he made significant contributions to the five Art Ross trophies that Esposito won. He changed the game, for the better and in my opinion was the greatest player ever.

Was at the HHOF over the weekend. Say some Bobby Orr stuff. The knee brace he wore was from the freaking stone age. Really unfortunate the timing of his career.

I would have LOVED to see what Bobby Orr and Mike Bossy would have done with full careers.............would have been incredible to see. Bossy only played 10 seasons and had almost 600 goals, I think had he stayed healthy he would have had more than Gretzky |

That's why Gardiner isn't signed yet. He's rejected every team. He might be too great for the NHL. |
