Do you think Wise or Barrett have top 6 potential?
- tvetter

I haven't followed their careers as much so I can't say for sure. I just have the feeling that they'll follow in the footsteps of guys like Hayden or Sikura. Forwards who could be solid depth players, but not necessarily the top guys who will carry the load.

I think you're right on with predicting Dach making the team and perhaps even as the 3C. Maybe not starting there but ending up there.

Then Kurashev makes the team a year from now. As Tyler pointed out, I believe he at least gets a cup of coffee.

As for where Wise and Barratt top out, I think Wise could be a top 6 but likely ends up being middle 6. He could be a stellar 3C. I just don't see him supplanting Dach and Strome for the top 2 pivot roles.

Barratt is likely bottom 6 but could be all-terrain like Shaw and Caggiula being able to slot on any line and be effective but not a true 1st or 2nd liner.

I think you are close on the predictions Tyler.

If I saw one I would change it would be Maatta. I see him having some PP time, and maybe scoring close to 10....I will pencil him in for 8.

But, interesting read fella. Keep up the good work!!!

Yes. All the time. It was worse when I used Chrome. A while back, I switched to Firefox, and they stopped for a long time, but now they're back.

That's funny I have problems too but on my laptop Chrome works much better than Microsoft edge browser.

My hope is that Gus goes on a 60 point pace, and Boqvist shows he's the real deal. That would allow us to trade Gus at the deadline, bring up Boqvist to fill his role, and use the picks and prospects gained from Gus to turn into a 3C+.
- tvetter

How much would you get for Gus as a late season rental and not going to do that if things are looking good?

I'm almost always using my phone. I wonder if that makes a difference, phone vs PC? Also, does the carrier matter? I have Verizon.

I'm just going to throw this out there....I predict Seabrook to have a bit of a bounce back season offensively. I think he worked hard to get into shape last season but injury slowed him down right from camp. I think the summer might do him good and we could seem him fight the aging curve a little bit. (I'm not saying he will be Seabrook in his prime)

I think he will have a stable partner with experience and the Hawks have a few more guys they can rely on defensively so Seabrook might be deployed a bit more favorably at 5v5.

My prediction will be to see him net 9 goals with 5/6 of those on the PP. Again, not saying his career isn't on the decline, but I think this will one of those seasons where he fights the decline to get a bit back on track.

Barratt is probably a middle six type. Strong IQ and solid 2-way. He has some good skill/play maker. Better than Caggiula probably more skill than Shaw too. I like him a lot. Have to wait and see how he develops.

Agree that Seabrook is a candidate for a bounce back year. As you mentioned, the improved D depth should help him as far as favorable ice time and situations played in.

I also think Seabrook has it on him to score 8-9 goals. Concur with hawk35 that Maatta may be near that range with 7-8.

Regardless of actual totals, I believe these 3 are the blueline leaders in goals.

That’s possible as well for Barratt. He’s a top forward prospect for the Hawks, IMO, so he has potential to really shine as a rugged 20/20, 200 foot forward. Intense and in your face.

Absolutely.

But it is a reach to start predict high water marks on these kids until their bodies are ready and they actually can achieve the confidence the work ethic to reach the high status of an NHL player, but are barring big injuries, losses confidence, maybe they get there, b/c both have compete and skills.

Great write up as always.

However, we have a milestone alert.

Today marks the 534 straight day of Trade Gus posts, which eclipses the "Is Crawford Elite?" post streak from 2013-2015.

My guess is that we are only half way there on Gus.

This is a "generational" topic.

According to a lot of posters on this board Maata is slower than molassis in January. Sounds like he will never make it into the offensive zone 7 times in the season, let alone scoring 7 goals.

One issue about Gus, I know it happened last year but this year I don't think it's as likely the Hawks suck and he is good. Either way it lessens the chance he's traded unless it's to dump him for something.

Static analysis.

First, on balance the Hawks did not make the playoffs, so season was a failure.

Second, from the end of December on, the Hawks only 8 or 9 other teams earned more points then they did.

The team clearly turned a corner and were more competitive - on a consistent basis over the last 30 games.

Gus was as much a part of that as anyone.

Thanks Hawk35.

If Maatta gets PP time, I can see him around 7-8 but... that's a big IF.

I don't think PP2 gets much time and when they do, it will most likely be Keith and/or Seabrook on the point.

That was my thinking anyway.

I'm a Gus fan, but I think if the Hawks determine that Boqvist is ready, he's as good as gone. As I said earlier, unless we are a legit contender, I don't want to lose him for nothing. Maybe they can trade Murphy, Maata or DeHaan instead, but I think if he puts up another 60 point season, he's going to get more than any of them.

If only that was the issue, believe me , it's not. Maybe it should be?? lol Seriously, it's extremely annoying. I 've been mostly reading here since 2010. Would like to continue, but again, why can't those in charge of this site clean it up ????!! I don't have this issue anywhere else I visit...…..so there's that.

Maatta is a yo-yo in the goal scoring department starting from his rookie year: 9, 1, 6, 1, 7, and 1 last year. If he stays true to his trend, he's due for an increase in goals. I think 4-5 is realistic while my prediction of 7-8 is admittedly lofty yet not out of the realm of possibility.

Where he lands depends on his health and PP time. Even if he's not on the PP, 4-5 still seems doable since he can still fire away while 5-on-5.

Yes, his speed is questionable but if he's unloading shots from the point, I don't see how speed is that much of a factor. Look at Seabrook, for instance.
