Size is less of factor since there is significantly less physicality. It still grants you an advantage in some situations - like boardplay and in front of the net - but a larger portion of the game is played out of those situations.

Tampa has Point, Johnson and Gourde who all play prominent roles on their team, and they are all 5'10 or less. Hockey measurements are also oddly generous - they list Marner at 6'0.

I think someone noted it yesterday, though - the most concerning thing is that for the undersized players, it typically points out that their skating isn't a plus. All of the effective undersized players in the NHL can skate:

Kane, Marchand, Gaudreau, Point, DeBrincat, Domi, Atkinson, Marchessault, Gallagher, Gourde, Arvidsson, Johnson . . .

On D it is harder, I'll grant, but you still have Barrie, Krug, Spurgeon, Ellis, Butcher, Girard, Grzelcyk, Mete, Quinn Hughes, Brannstrom among others like Vatanen or Stetcher . . . . and the thing is everyone of those guys can skate.

. . . That all said, I also prefer balance. I don't care if we have a few small guys who are talented, shifty, and can drive the play, but you still need some bigger guys to do the hard work and cause disruption in the offensive zone or separation in the defensive zone.

I like Mete but he feels a little out of place in that group right now.

He hired a specialist to work on his shot this summer.

He's bound to score at some point.

Was pretty funny when Poehling scored 3 goals in his first game and Mete was there saying in a joke "I've been waiting forever more my first goal and this guy comes in and scores 3... I kinda hate him right now".

The kids aren't really breaking sticks these days (at least not the games I'm coaching).

It makes it a little bit easier to swallow the fact I'm paying $80 for a kids' stick.

I mean . . a little by statistical contrast, but he is a good puck moving defenseman. It's not Quinn Hughes or Brannstrom have actually done anything yet, either. But we know they will be effective as well.

The wooden sticks did not hold very well to these heavy pucks. But they were only 20 bucks as well, and free in Jr.
