It's not as if that's the only red area though. He gives up tons of chances all around the defensive zone because he's in that zone more often than other players. - Trevor Shackles
No but the area that he's responsible for has the least amount of unblocked shots/red. Again by saying he gives up shots around the Dzone is implying he's responsible for all of it - which he isn't - he's not supposed to be roaming around the Dzone trying to block everything. It's like criticizing a Dman for not scoring more goals from the slot or in tight around the net - it's stupid. |

He had 18 points in 51 games and is making $800k. Plus he's on a one-year deal and means nothing to the future of this team. So ya, he's going to be scratched. - Trevor Shackles
I thought you were interested in actually WINNING games. My mistake...carry on then |

why on earth would we be interested in winning games? the chances of this team making the playoffs are next to nothing, rather lose, give the prospects some ice time, and get a top 3 pick in the draft.......EXACTLY like your team did to draft Matthews |

sure....but at this point, the development of a young player like Formenton, Davidsson, Abramov, etc....are probably more important than the 6th rd pick we'd get for Ennis.
the guy will obviously play, but if he needs to come out of the lineup for a game here and there.....I have no issues with that. - sensarmy_11
No, getting the kids the ice time is great. Why not have them dominate in the AHL for a season. Maybe win the calder trophy and bring some winning culture to the sens in a years time.
Even though the sens are only a few years removed from a nice run, the guys from that team are pretty well all gone. Never a bad idea to have a core of young players that are accustomed to winning and playing late into the spring/summer. |

Agreed... Tkachuk/Chabot and maybe Batherson/Wolanin aside, there's something to be said for limiting the exposure of some of the less experienced prospects to the impending tire fire of the the 2019/20 season. This doesn't mean that you don't rotate some players up based on merit, but depth of bodies really isn't a problem on the team, with what looks like a pretty clean list of 12F-6D-2G.
F - Tkachuk, White, Batherson, Duclair, Ryan, Anisimov, Tierney, Brown, Pageau, Ennis, Boedker, Veronneau
D - Chabot, DeMelo, Zaitsev, Hainsey, Wolanin, Borowiecki
G - Anderson, Nilsson
Now maybe someone blows the wheels off everyone in training camp, but there's no reason to just load up the roster with prospects who may not be ready. Not to mention that there are at 10 players on that list who are either impending UFA or impending RFA already making >$1.5M/yr who could be traded during the season, and strategically this is also their best chance to secure a lottery-quality prospect. As for the young players, I can't think of a single player outside of Batherson/Wolanin who wouldn't clearly benefit from playing a bigger role in the AHL, and having a chance to develop some winning chemistry together. |

Did you see that he gives up 27% more shots on average overall though? It's not as if he is only responsible for shots coming from the point. When he's out there, shots are being taken from all over the place, which isn't completely his fault, but he's a common denominator with his linemates. |

Look, I like Ennis as a bottom-six defensive forward. But a) the Sens should want the highest pick possible, and b) come on if you seriously think playing Ennis over Balcers, Brown, or Chlapik is going to make a huge difference |

Pump the brakes bud. There's this thing called the NHL entry draft. This year is set to be a good one. Ottawa needs more high end prospects.
Laffs tanked for McDavid, failed, and then dove head first right back into failure to draft Not McDavid. So, this type of thing has been done before. |

Veronneau won't be in the NHL unless he absolutely BLOWS people away in camp.....I suspect there are probably 6-7 guys he'd need to leap frog to make this team.....I would suspect he's behind Formenton, Balcers, Chaplik, L. Brown, Paul, Davidsson. he would need to jump ahead of at least 5 of those guys to have a shot......can't see it happening.
he played in the NHL at the end of the year last year simply because that's the incentive to get NCAA free agents to sign with your team..........realistically he probably should have been in the AHL |
