I got roped into a PPR fantasy football league this year with a $100 buy-in. I haven't played fantasy football in years. Draft's tomorrow. I pick 4th.
Let's get this out of the way. The answer to the question "What were you thinking?" is "I don't know".
Having done little research or following players, I am thinking of using the ADP calculator as a guide. Is that smart or dumb? |

If we finish 31st, his job shouldn't be on the line? It better be at this point.
I am pretty confident we won't be 31st though, maybe 21st or slightly better, so it's really a moot point. - Bufsaints8
He should be fired if we finish 31st. IDGAF what his draft record looks like.
I'm not convinced he's done retooling this team to move on from some seriously underwhelming players, but there is no possible way the talent on this team equates to 31st. |

It’s a good guide. But make sure to do your own research as well. I snagged McCaffrey with the last pick in the 2nd round last year and he’ll most likely go in the top 10 picks of most leagues this year. |

I meant to do some research over the weekend, but sitting on a beach at a cottage seemed more fun. |

This argument holds no water imo
Botterill acquired or re-signed 9 of the 10. He didn't have to do that, and he didn't have to keep them this year. It's an excuse created by the fans for Botterill.
We cant compete until he cleans up the mess he made?
That's a terrible excuse imo. He chose this roster, and he chose those players. - jcragcrumple
Sobotka was a cap dump and seen as a bottom 6 moderately useful player.
The Lockport brothers have a job to do, and even though there may be a few cheaper options, they do their jobs on the PK and play a decent checking line. I don't really blame him for those two, and their salary impact is minimal.
Bogo and Okposo are not his.
Scandella and Pommer was brought here for a 3rd liner and failed top 6er due to a serious lack of depth, thank you for your service, TM
Berglund was to provide middle 6 C support for Casey, and that failed. That's a mark on Botts, regardless of the necessity to get rid of God.
Re-signing Ristolainen was a no brainer at the time.
Skinner is a massive win. Sheary was virtually free as long as we took Hunwick for a 4th. A good price to pay to fill in the depth left bare by thank you for your service TM.
Scott Wilson is a nice 4th liner for a 5th. Not the best use of asset I guess, but it's insignificant and filled a void.
Carter Hutton was a smart signing, considering it filled a void, and he's better than our defense allowed him to be last year.
Vesey, Mojo, Miller, Joki, Montour remain to be seen.
I don't see a lot of major flaws here. His God return hinges on Colin Miller, Ryan Johnson and Tage Thompson. We have a few years to really determine that. Sure wish the return was better, but again, interest was extremely limited.
Now that we have some prospects ready to step up, we don't need to be filling voids with Charley Work. |

you'll be fine-ish.
Problem is, you're playing a lot of serious players. If you don't mind tossing a bill, you'll be fine. But post draft, you're gonna have to watch the wire like a hawk. |

So he's good enough for the Hawks but not for the Sabres.
Interesting.
Really interesting take. - TheSabresTaco
Hey, the Hawks GM said after the trade he would get an opportunity to play top six.
The hawks have two very good first liners and two very good second liners, so if Nylander slides into one of those wing slots, he could do pretty well. If the sabres decided to give Nylander the top spot with Eichel and Skinner, the kid probably scores a few goals here too.
Also, it hardly needs to be said, but the blackhawks are hardly a good team over there either. |

It's ridiculous how all these sites charge you for their ADP cheat sheets now. Shows how long I have been out of the game. |

Being a good GM isn't just about what you do, it's about what you didn't do too.
Regier killed it with most of his trades. He also sat and did nothing wayyy to often.
Botts has in my opinion made some decent moves, but not enough for us to be good. I expected a lot more than Vesey, MoJo, and Miller. They keep saying losing is unacceptable but keep bringing back losing players. Roster surgery turned into a minor roster procedure. No one but Housley is gone.

In one off season?
That's some pretty high expectations
The only thing I think that needed to be done that hasn't happened is a Risto trade.
He has brought in 2 middle 6 wingers something this team really needed and a top 4 d man in one off season.
Not to mention swapped a very disappointing prospect for a blue liner who could be another top 4 guy at the end of this year. |

I agree with you.
I expected, still expect more alterations to this roster to be made before the regular season begins.
I know that JB knows his job but in my opinion, this is not a roster that puts fear into any other team.
He can't really believe that this roster as it sits can challenge for a playoff spot, can he?
But hey, he certainly knows more than I do so for now I will remain patient. |

Colin Miller was a cap casualty that wasn't kept because he lacks what I like to call playoff defense.
A bunch of Mattias Samuelssons. It's why I believe he was benched. He's a fantastic puck carrier, he's good in the other zone, he's great against bottom 6 competition and can probably handle middle 6 almost as well.
But he allows entries too against top 6.
So what it came down to is, he was highest salaried defender that was expendable. - TheSabresTaco
Where’s this from?
Doesn’t sound like he’d be a good fit to pair with Dahlin |

Realistic is more like it
I would have liked to see a Risto trade for a top 6 winger but other than that there has been solid pieces added to this roster
The subtraction piece is still something I am waiting for as well

Has anyone else seen these value charts on Marcus Davidsson?
He's #15 per Pronman, but I've seen him discussed as a top 5 prospect for us. I thought he had a down year this year, so can't argue either way, just curious on what we thought. |

expecting all that needs doing in one or two offseasons is unreasonable. |
