So because Pominville is over 35, they could offer him an incentive-based contract. If he reaches those, the incentives would apply to the cap next year when we have more room.
My proposal would be to waive Okposo and use the $1m savings to sign pominville to a base salary of $1m with incentives up to $3m
Will it happen? No. But I'd rather watch pominville play than okposo
I suppose the scenario would also work with sobotka - jcragcrumple
Ignoring the cap room he takes up, he's actually a very serviceable bottom 6 forward, in many regards. Like it, hate it, up to you. But if the team isn't in a cap bind (Botterill says they're not), he's more useful than probably 5-6 players on this team. |

Ehlers is only 23 and has averaged 25G/82 games for his first four seasons. I'd do him in a heartbeat.
Kase in a heartbeat too though. |

I read that article about his bottom-6 prowess (insert beetlejuice "this thing reads like stereo instructions" gif).
"The veteran forward also was one of the better players last season in expected goals against per 60 when leading."
In terms of what forwards he's more useful than-
It's hard to say he's more useful than the PK guys (girgs, larry, erod). He's not a 5-on-5 scorer like vesey and sheary (26 even strength points)
I'd say he's more useful than wilson, sobotka, elie. |

100% accurate. He's not a problem at all this year. Actually provides a nice steady vet presence. Okposo isn't hurting you when he's on the ice. |

Honestly can't believe all the Botts talk. As if he hasn't done anything.
From trade deadline till now the Sabres have added
Three D that will be starting
Two forwards that will be starting
And there is another F who will be graduating from Rochester that will be starting.
Also, a new bad A$$ coach who has universally been recognized as an expert in sports motivation.
AND he has a prime asset that has not been moved yet, but still may be moved. Its clear to me the log jam preventing Risto's move is due to all the unsigned RFAs.
So 6/18 skaters will be new. 1/3 of the team (minus goalies) is new. And a new coach.
I understand Buffalo sports skepticism, but at a minimum we should be recognizing that this will be a very different team that takes the ice this year. Who knows what will happen.
Personally...I'm with Kaiser. I think we are going to be good. - Angler
Agreed. Botts has done fine this offseason trying to infuse some talent into the roster. We'll see how Miller, Mojo, Vesey and Joker do, but I think we will be more competitive at least.
I think a lot will depend on Ralph and whether our youngins take that next step, particularly Mitts if no center gets acquired before start of the year. |

Is it wishful thinking to hope we can get a younger player than Zucker for Risto?
Zucker is good, no arguments there. But Kase or Roslovic seem to fit the timeline a lot better, if they are potential targets anyways. |
