Ok, but if you even go back to year 2 of Botts, those players are 19 years old, and his first rounder was Dahlin.
How many 18-19 year old post-first rounders fight for NHL roster spots?
It’s just a weird criticism - sbroads24
That's not the criticism. The criticism is that there is very, very little that could even possibly come.
Pekar and Davidsson?

Why doesn’t Cozens and Mittelstadt count lol?
So if Mitts was still in college and not already a regular we wouldn’t be criticizing it?
Mitts being good enough for the NHL actually looks bad on Botterill? |

He owns not trading Risto
He owns Housley
He owns signing some bad 4th liners.
Pretending that the ineptitude of Murray doesn’t exist anymore is insane.
We said it when he was fired, he set this organization back years - sbroads24
I think Housley was a Pegula move ...... that’s just me. |

At this point honestly I think everyone is just holding their breath on Mitts. Last year he was one of the best NHL prospects. Now...he could still be a 65 point guy, but he could just be a total bust too. He wasn't good enough for the NHL. He was on a team dumb enough to rush him along.
That is part of the negativity. Ullmark was bad. Mitts was bad. Bailey and Baptiste officially were given up on. Guhle was given up on. Nylander is over. Asplund looks to be at best a checking center. The big crop of young stars never really happened, and now we look empty. |

With gmtm we were empty at both D and O. JB for some reason chose to only address the D. But he was given a huge hole to fill. |

Pretending these are remotely the same is ludicrous
Which 3rd rounder did Botts trade to talk to a college UFA for 3 months and have him walk?
Which 3rd rounder did Botts trade for Klesla to refuse to play here?
Which two second rounders did he trade along with a viable, young 3-5 D man did he trade to get a prospect that was a 4th round pick a year ago?
Which first did he trade for a goalie?
Who’s a better player to trade a second round pick for ? Colin Miller or Josh Gorges?
It’s bananas to compare them - sbroads24
How many picks has Botts wasted to trade up?
Murray would've been crucified for moving up that much.

Nah, not a chance.
He might not be a star but he’s absolutely a top 9 NHL center even with modest improvement |

This ranking is where the trades for Beaulieu, Pominville/Scandella, Montour, Miller. Wilson, Skinner, Sheary/Hunwick and Vesey shows up.
I know this board doesn't see any parallels between GMTM and JB, but that's four 3rd round picks, 2 seconds and a 1st
It doesn't fit neatly with the "building the right way" narrative, but it's true - jcragcrumple
But you’re not considering that Botts wasn’t doing a full rebuild like GMTM was
Botts wasn’t gonna wait 5ish years to see if guys he drafted in rounds 2-4 could be of any help
Are u suggesting he should’ve done that?
If so, that’s wasting years of Jack & Dahlin, etc
Botts had to get us competitive asap

It does not pale in comparison; you just approve of said moves. Let's be honest, moving up outside the top 10 is dumb. Using 2 picks to pick one player a few spots ahead of where you could've picked the same player(not literally the same player, obviously)? There is no discernible difference in the odds that a player will "make it". Come on, that's sh¡tty asset management however you want to cut it. |

The Bills went ahead and clarified today the scenarios for Wade moving forward during the 53-man roster cutdown:
He can make the 53-man roster outright.
He can be put on waivers, which would allow another team to claim him and place them on their 53-man roster.
If he clears waivers, he can be added to the Bills practice squad as a regular member of the 10-man squad, which will allow him to be called up during the regular season (and also allows him to be signed by another team to the active roster,) OR…
He can be added to the Bills practice squad as an 11th exempt member, which protects him from being signed by another team, but also means he cannot be called up to the Bills active roster this season.
Lastly, if he clears waivers and the Bills decide they don’t want to use either practice squad option on him, he is free to join any other team’s practice squad, but only as a regular practice squad member. The special 11th member exemption is only available to the Bills. - adambuffalo

I think the ranking of 19th should be a wakeup call for those who preached patience in the name of pipeline building.
Is the team good yet? Because although supposedly he's been pipeline building, those outside of this thread disagree.
So the moves he made better make us good |

#1 ranked team New York Rangers
Best prospect - Kakko- result of a won lottery
Second best prospect - 2018 1st rounder Kravstov-
#2 ranked team - LA Kings
Best prospect - Turcotte- 2019 1st rounder
Second best - Kupari- 2018 first rounder
Now do you not see how Rasmus Dahlin and Mittelstadt already being NHL regulars factors in here? |

29 when he wasn’t on the first line barely gave any effort. It was embarrassing. He wouldn’t go into corners or whimp out battle wise / compete wise |

Honestly, the fact that the entire 4th line is back shows how bad our prospect pool is. When your best chance at stealing a fourth line spot is CJ Smith your farm team sucks.
Botts can claim he cares about prospects, but bottom line is he traded in his time here:
1. 3rd rnd Pick for Beaulieu
2. Pick to Vegas for expansion draft protection
3. 3rd for 4th swap in Scandella trade
4. Pick for Wilson
5. Pick for Sheary
6. 3 picks and a prospect for Skinner
7. Guhle and a first round pick for Montour
8. 2 picks for Colin Miller
9. Pick for Vesey
What did he do to restock?
1. 2 picks for Evander Kane
2. Tage Thompson and a pick for ROR
3. 7th round pick for Fedun
4. 6th rnd pick back for Beaulieu
I've ignored his draft picks for draft picks trades and his prospect swaps as those are picks/prospects in and out.
I'm not saying most of those weren't even okay to good moves. But the bottom line is there is this misconception that Botts is restocking the farm team after Murray depleted the draft pick stache. It's just not true. Botts has been a seller of picks and young players.
Where I do fault him is his refusal to restock by trading failing veterans for picks. Risto should have been traded for a pick and a prospect. Larsson is probably worth a low level pick to some teams. RoR was basically traded for three crappy roster players, I would have much rather seen AHL or even OHL players coming back.
In short, the team has two legitimate prospects in 6k and Goalafsson. Cozens isn't really anything to their credit, they just drafted him a couple months ago, and only then because they sucked so hard they got a top ten pick. I'm not giving them credit for his development, not until he makes either the Americans or the Sabres.
No one wants to admit the truth, but the team was bottom half of the league and there is bottom half of the league help coming. We are in trouble. - matty12345

Well, no, because, though Kane isn't on the team, assets were acquired on him leaving. No assets were acquired with Pominville's departure. That also means he didn't really trade Myers either, because he doesn't play for the Jets now. If we're going on that. |

No, no you aren't.
