My prediction is that there will be a flurry of Activity in the weeks leading into and just after camp opens, once some RFA finally relents and sets the market. Everybody is hesitating to go first in an undefined market. Once one signs and establishes the rate, that will define a bunch of teams’ abilities to deal with the cap implications, and lead to signings and deals etc.

Until that happens, this place will be a sh!thole country.

just my take on the Risto situation,

I think if he is traded we will be disappointed on the return, look at what joker and Miller cost, and going by how we rate Risto I can't imagine the return is going to be a top 6 forward, RW or C.

I reckon we keep him and hope the new D around him, and hopefully less mins, improves (or masks) his play until he becomes worth something to a desperate team at the deadline.

You're here way too much to have anything related to you be "out of nowhere".

This is a fair point.

I’m not saying it’s different for me. I’m just saying it’s a fair point.

Short version: optimism in the organization that something will happen prior to camp, nothing 100% though. I’m hearing a Western conference team is most interested (WPG or ANA probably).

This guy has a pretty good history of being accurate. Of course, whatever deal it would be is not done, so it might not happen, but its a rumor.

That seems about right ...... both of those teams this summer have been rumored to be in on Risto.

The jets have to be waiting on Connor / laine deals. Then figure out what they want to do

So because Pominville is over 35, they could offer him an incentive-based contract. If he reaches those, the incentives would apply to the cap next year when we have more room.

My proposal would be to waive Okposo and use the $1m savings to sign pominville to a base salary of $1m with incentives up to $3m

Will it happen? No. But I'd rather watch pominville play than okposo

I suppose the scenario would also work with sobotka

I would have gladly brought back pommer and kicked girgens and larsson to the curb

sheary, sobotka and pommer would have been a fine 4th line

18 minor penalties and a -9 for okposo

2 minor penalties and a -4 for pommer

If they're looking at the roster objectively, pommer is a better bottom-6 choice than okposo. It would never, ever happen, but it would make sense imo

If Okposo wasn't an albatross, it probably would have happened by now.

Eh. If someone would have taken Okposo in a trade, it would have happened by now, even for a late round pick.

Oh for sure. I meant waiving him. I don't think they'd do it

pay some random doctor to give him a diagnosis of some incurable skin condition that makes Okposo unable to play out his contract and go on LTIR

Hey, since everything sabres related is depressing. Here is one uplifting thought. Maybe the RFA issue won't get solved until December, and everyone will hold out. It will be like 7-8 stars are hurt to start the season. The sabres don't have one so maybe we win a game or two in October or November that would have been a loss! Maybe the extra 4 points or so gets us into eighth!

Honestly can't believe all the Botts talk. As if he hasn't done anything.

From trade deadline till now the Sabres have added

Three D that will be starting
Two forwards that will be starting
And there is another F who will be graduating from Rochester that will be starting.
Also, a new bad A$$ coach who has universally been recognized as an expert in sports motivation.

AND he has a prime asset that has not been moved yet, but still may be moved. Its clear to me the log jam preventing Risto's move is due to all the unsigned RFAs.

So 6/18 skaters will be new. 1/3 of the team (minus goalies) is new. And a new coach.

I understand Buffalo sports skepticism, but at a minimum we should be recognizing that this will be a very different team that takes the ice this year. Who knows what will happen.
Personally...I'm with Kaiser. I think we are going to be good.
