Florida snags a wild card spot. .
Their top six is solid, and adding Bob will be a big boost. - david22
I think Florida will be the main competition for the Leafs for a wild card spot. |

Not saying trading him is the best option because it’s not....
But if Marner is going to stand pat on 11 million I’d love a Marner for Werenski/Anderson.
Werenski will probably get 6x6.5
I’d still rather have Marner at a reasonable cap hit..... - Santo_44
so let me get this straight, no to marner for rantanen because friends and yes to marner for anderson OR werenski just because? |

Toronto is too good not to finish top 3 in the division. Even if Marner pulls a Nylander (which I doubt happens) |

I believe Matthews to be the better player, but using the playoffs is a little off. IMO
Marner had the Bergeron/Marchand line 3x more then Auston. - Garnie
Auston has a lot less support than John Tavares...IMHO |

Or maybe negotiation is a common tactic for contracts. - Zezel
Point is by far the better player |

I think the elephant in the room - defensive deficiencies - will be an even bigger problem this season. |

By far? I don’t think so.
But he scores more and is a center so yeah...I’d take him over Marner. |

Who do you think JT faces? Matthews faces the second best the opposition offers. |

Sure. And then another season goes by, and I look back and wonder why guys are such super fan boys and worship the Leafs like they have won something the last 50 plus years. But hey, they are the richest team for a reason I guess. |

It's not a matter of having 6 All-Star D. It's a matter of there being too many guys who play the exact same style and too few who know what to do in their own end.
It's the same problem they have with the forwards. Speed and skill for days but toughness, physicality and grit almost non-existent, especially with Kadri gone.
If Gardiner signed, that top-4 is still soft and defensively flawed. Without Gardiner, it's still the same because then poopstain Ceci gets more ice time and he's even worse. - JohnFergusonJr
Still soft but Gards is much better then Ceci, our D would be the best it’s been IF we can get Gards signed too....I would think ( not that I think we’ll get him signed ) |

Still facing Bergeron / Marchand is pretty much an impossible task looking at their stats and how they run over everyone they face for the most. |

That's arguable. It would be tough for me to say it was by far for either player. I still like Marner. |

I just want to know why it’s so damn important that Marner played with JVR/Bozak and how it was a huge reason he couldn’t get over 70 points.
But when Matthews plays with worse players it doesn’t matter.... |

Yes.
Let’s look back.
I want to look back at this and see if Florida and the Leafs are battling for the last playoff spot.
I just took a screenshot.
In fact I’ll make a page on your predictions from today on. I’ll share it at the end of the season.
Please. Go on.
Tell us what you think Nylander will do this season? |

I would be very happy to bet this
In fact I’d bet he gets a raise from his current cap hit. |

I think Kap - Nylander and Johnsson are pretty good?
Of course JT helped Marner, and Marner helped JT set his goals record.
I think Matthews is a better player, but over the 3 years so far, it’s not by as much as some think.
I don’t like many contracts on many teams, so I’ll just stay out of the “who’s worth what” talk. |

matthews played ball and signed a contract the leafs offered, marner is not doing the same. - LeafnsNxt2Godlyns
Are you (frank)ing kidding? Mathews got one hell of a player friendly contract. He got the 2nd highest cap hit in the NHL and he only had to sign for 5 years. Stop pretending like Matthews took this team friendly deal. Is it a nice cap hit? Yes, but you only have 5 years of him at that and then he's a UFA. There's a really good chance he makes more than McDavid over those peak 8 years. |
